This is either super basic.. or impossible because I haven't been able to find a tutorial to it - but!...
I have a transition file I want to use and create a new transition with.
What do I mean?
I want to use the transition effect to reveal the background underneath, not to switch scenes. I just want to have my background come alive and appear and be revealed on-screen with the transition glitch effect. I have attempted to alpha invert the layer but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Hi. It's hard to understand exactly what you mean but I suspect you might want to look up "Track Matte" tutorials. If that isn't it then post shots of your screen, "transition file" and background which might make things clearer.

There are automatic presets but if you are using any of the Transition effects you have to set some keyframes. I strongly suggest that you start by opening the Learn workspace in After Effects and go through the getting started with the UI tutorials. It won't take you very long. Then spend a couple of hours trying some of the projects in the Beginner section of the User Guide. You can always fine it on the After Effects product page, the Resources section of this forum and by using the Searh Help field in the top right corner of the AE UI just to the right of the workspaces.

There's like a million ways to go about a glitch transition. Do you have an example of what you're hoping to achieve?
