Slow scrubbing when no layers are visible

I'm working on a project for a few days, and it happens that suddenly the scrub becomes extremely slow on a specific comp.

The comp has many complicated layers and nested comps, with lots of expressions. However, the scrubbing is slow even when I turn off the visibility of all of the layers!

Also, it will fix itself if I restart AE

Any ideas about that?

Thank you

As you elude to, it is pretty common to see it slow depending on effects and length of time you are scrubbing but interesting that even when all layers turned off, it's slow.  Have gone through the usual routine of clearing cache and all that?

I'd give that a shot.

It's indeed weird.

And let me clarify - this is not the normal slow scrubbing we all know. It's an extremely jaggy jittering scrub.

Purging didn't help, but closing and opening AE solve it, until it happens again after a while

Any other suggestions?

Ok, so closing and reopening seems to provide a temporary fix.  Is it only this one comp?  Have you tried others?

Hate to get in to the whole uninstall and reinstall recommendations since I hate that myself but I would see if it is centered on this particular comp/project.  If it can be isolated to that, then perhaps you can at least finish that one and move on.

It can happen to any such complex comp

I just installed the new AE couple of weeks ago, so I don't think it'll solve it

It also happened on an older version of AE with complex comps
