So there's this white tab on top of my Ae screen and it takes up space and it also shows my name

What you are trying to get rid of is the application frame. 

What Rick suggested should definately work, the command is called Maximize App Window.

Just make sure you used backslash (the one above Return) and not slash.

You could try going to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, searching for the command and assigning a new command to it.
