Text stroke gradient

Hello,

How can you make a text path have a transparent gradient that goes from top to bottom? with the opacity modifier, I can only make it go from left to right or vice versa.

I think the best way to do it is to convert the text to a shape layer. Then you will have full control for the stroke gradient and opacity. To convert the text to a shape layer select your text layer and go to Layer > Create > Convert Text to Shape Layer.

You can tweak the opacity simply by setting the selector to "Line" in the advanced options. Other than that there's a million ways to do trhis with a simple linear wipe or a gradient applied as a track matte. Entirely depends on what specific look you are after.

Hello Mylenium,

to be honest, I don¡t get how to do that. I will attach two files to see it we can handle it:

-Option a is where i'm stuck

-Option b is objective, but tihs is outlines

For single line text the gradient or wipe-based fade would be way to go. simply create a solid matching the comp size, apply a Ramp effect and assign it as a luma matte to your text. Same for a wipe-based approach, only that you would use it as an Alpha matte. This should give a consistent centered fade even with different typefaces and characters.

in the end I came to the same conclusion, although I thought there would be a way to do it with modifiers so I wouldn't have to create layers,
