timecode calculator in time code display box not working

Explorer ,
Oct 23, 2017 Oct 23, 2017

In older versions of After Effects I could type in +100 or +2 and it would magically add that amount of frames or seconds to the time code. (worked in composition settings and in the timecode display box in the timeline).

This technique is invaluable for keyframing at precise intervals.

Does not seem to work anymore. What am I missing?

After Effects CC 2017 14.2 and After Effects CC 2018 15.0 on two different machines, running Mac OSX High Sierra.

Using Timecode setting in project settings

Using 25Frames per second.

Just updated to 2018 on my machine, colleague just updated to 2017.

We just updated to High Sierra Late Last week.

Used to work fine in AE 2015

Yes, used to work fine, not working on two different machines. Can't quite tell if its a bug or if its a setting I have turned on or off by accident.

Could be related to High Sierra or project updating, smallprint. Is this with updated projects and new projects? Or just updated ones?

Thanks,
Kevin

It not working wether I start a new project or open an old one. And literally it's on 2 different machines, with 2 different team users, and it was happening in cc2017 version of after effects too. Other user has now updated to cc2018. I think it maybe a high sierra issue. However no way to tell because we updated to cc2018 at same time as updating to high sierra.

I have just found the solution ! To navigate with precision on the timeline, you need to use "Go To Time" or click directly on the time code. After that you need to erase the current time code and type how much time do you want to add.

Important : If you type the expression after the current time code, that isn't working.

Isn't working : "0;00;10;12 +10"

Is working

  • "+10." add 10 secondes
  • "+1" add one frame

Unfortunlay, that not works with the substraction.

When you do that, AE subtract the time from the begin of the timeline, not since the current time code.

For example : "-3." from "0;00;10;12" return "-0;0;3;0" not "0;0;7;12"
