TYPEWRITER EFFECT— Can it type on AND "type off"?

Hi,

I'm using the After Effect typewriter effect to create text that appears on the right, scrolls leftward, then disappears on the left, all within a fixed portion of the video.

Currently, I have the cursor starting at the rightmost edge of the section, with the justufication set to the right, while shifting the text layer to the left in time with the appearing text, so that the text appears and scrolls to the left, while maintaining the same starting point.  So far, so good.

BUT-

My issue is with how the text disappears.  Currently I'm using a slightly blurred shape layer as a mask, so the text vanishes softly at the end of its scroll.  (See image)

However, I'd prefer for the text to "un-type" at the leftmost edge of the section, IE: to disappear letter-by-letter, in the inverse of how they appeared.

If anybody has any pointers, I'd be grateful!

-Jonathan
