Typewriter flowing right to left

My goal is an animation of text flowing along a path (in InDesign) where characters are generated on the right, flow left, and are eliminated as they reach the left end of the path. The flow continues until the source of characters is exhausted, not when the first character hits the left end of the path. After Effect's Typewriter does not seem to be able to be tweaked to do this. Ideas?

If I'm understanding this correctly...

Don't you just need to animate the type along a path - from right to left, and then add a mask over the part of the text flow you want to reveal?

No need for the full text animation system at all.

I have abandoned InDesign for my project and am now using After Effects, so this question is no longer relevant. I have not attempted to implement Mike's suggestion so cannot mark it "Correct." Maybe the post should be deleted?
