Weird issues with newest version of After Effects

I've noticed several small issues with After Effects after updating it this week. One in particular was when i tried adding a lighting effect to a font. I was trying to add a spot light behind the words and have them cast a shadow onto the floor. However, when I went to my text and turned on "cast shadows" it did not work. This is just one of many issues Ive had with the newest version of the software. I also had to reinstall Video Copilot, as well as having and issue where when turning on 3d mode certain layers would just disappear.

OS and system details, please. I am not seeing any of those problems.
