It's a super simple question with a very simple answer, but all the searches in the world, all the scouring through the user guide just won't tell me!

PLEASE just tell me what the hell it is!!!!!

Hey Angus,

Welcome to the community. We've got your back. A pick whipped layer will emulate the properties of the connected layer. The same can be done with individual properties of a layer. I have attached screenshots to explain. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Ishan

It's a little curly icon next to the Parent and property values in the Parent/Link column (Shift + F4). You use it to tie one layer or property to another.

You could select two layers, press "p" to reveal the Position Property, make sure that the Parent/Link column is visible by pressing Shift + F4, then drag the pickwhip from the position property of the bottom layer to the position property of the top layer. This will tie the top layer to the bottom one so that the position matches.

Spend some time with the User Guide and you'll see some examples of the Pickwhip in use on a few of the tutorials.

Thank you!!! I appreciate this deeply! I also found out by complete accident that there's actually two pick whip buttons you can choose from! The property pick whip is the curly symbol on the right, while the expression pick whip is the curly symbol that appears beneath the numbers under your comp layer options.

The User Guide needs a glossary that points each button or function to the appropriate page so that it's not as frustrating and/or time consuming as it was for me to just quickly look up something. Searching it up did nothing, and I can't stand videos for this sort of thing, no more!

Glad to know it helped! Could you let us know which guide you're referring to? If it's an Adobe article, we can reach out to the team to make the changes.
