Why can we still not paint in the composition window?

Anyone?

This would be especially useful for painting mattes so you can actually see the bit you are wanting to mask reveal as opposed to painting on a blak and white footage window praying you've hit the right spot.

Hi chrisbrearley,

Thanks for writing in.

I'd recommend you creating a feature request post on the After Effects UserVoice so that other users can vote: https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911311-after-effects

Let us know if there are any other questions.

Thanks,

I paint mattes all the time, you just have to refine the workflow. It's common to have two copies of footage you want to paint on in the timeline. It is also a really good idea to use the Paint workspace for this kind of work. If you do that you will be able to see the composite in the Comp Panel and the layer you are painting on in the layer panel at the same time.
