Hi,
Im having an issue with the latest version of AE since updating. The only way i can get it to launch is by disabling my Nvidia graphics card as recommended here https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/x-productkb/multi/application-c…
Im worried this will affect working performance and the use of plugins like Element 3d and Trapcode.
Does any one know what problems will be caused?
Ive tried mutiple uninstalls, reinstalls, updating, roll back of software and drivers but alway the same issue. Adobe and Nvidia support have no clue either so hoping someone may know a work around that wont impact performance.
You'll have to upgrade to Win10 soon ... as announced, Adobe will be dropping "support" for Win7 and 8.1 in new releases as Microsoft drops support for them coming early next year. We've upgraded the machines in our shop without trouble. Although ... we always do a clean install of an OS, not doing that auto-upgrade from 7 to 10 thing. Seems safer.
As to GPU ... there's really no reason to be on an earlier one than the '1000' series of Nvidia cards, 1050-1080. With a less-capable CPU, the 1050 wo

That GPU probably has 2GB of vRAM, which is low by current needs, and very few CUDA cores.
The newer PrPro and Ae need really more than that card has. It may do some, but wouldn't be that useful. Make sure you have the newest drivers for it.

Thanks for your help on this Neill, im really rubbish on the tech side of things so all help is welcome.
Whats annoying is everything was fine with ae 2018 15.0.1 but updating it to the latest version 2018 has caused the issue.
Ive updated drivers and spoken with both nvidia and adobe but nobody can help except say disable the GPU which is a rubbish solution considering trapcode etc are GPU accelerated.
What GPU would you suggest? Do you also think i should update to windows 10?

As to GPU ... there's really no reason to be on an earlier one than the '1000' series of Nvidia cards, 1050-1080. With a less-capable CPU, the 1050 would be probably a more cost-efficient choice, one with the minimum 4GB of vRAM that is required now. I'm running a 1060/6GB with my 6-core rig running around 3.4Ghz I think it is. And seems pretty well matched. And ... looking at an 8-core rig with a much higher Ghz speed, near/above 4, which would use either a 1070 or 1080 but an 8GB vRAM version of them. Which would be a total waste on my current rig.
A painful fact of computer use for complex programs like NLE's ... as the capability of computer gear goes up, the apps will slide into making use of it. Which of course means that as your gear ages (way too rapidly!) it gets to where the apps don't run well or at all. The change from the 12.x builds of 2018 to the 13.x builds of 2019 is one of those big changes ... dropped support for many earlier GPU's, and some other bits of hardware. While adding in the use of newer, better stuff.
"It's a cost of doing business".
Yep. Not an enjoyable part of the process, but probably assume you'll need to replace most if not the complete system every three years, four at most. I have to. And I don't build for outrageous capability, but for accomplishing what I need within limited budgets. I do have to account for this within the business.

I think yes it can slow down the performance of AE when working on you project since AE use some GPU accelerator but it's very limited and may you will not notice that in a simple project, anyway as a final result you will get same output with or without GPU, related elements 3D i think the story will be different since this plugin work only on GPU so better graphic card men better performance otherwise you will be limited in some place.
and what i'm not sure about it, if you disable the graphic card for AE did this disabled also for elements 3D!!!
