3D Spin Effect on a PNG as a Transition - First Time Using AE!

New Here ,

Hey, this is my first time using AE and I've run into this issue and I can't for the LIFE of me find a solution!

Essentially I want this character PNG to spin 180 degrees, then have a 2nd pose of the character spin in from 180 degrees to 360 so that it acts like a transition. My issue is that whenever the image moves on the Y Axis to spin how I want it too, it gets cut in half for a reason I do not know!

Here is a Link to a video that has the exact type of transition I'm looking for, literally about a second in! https://youtu.be/SFHtIPpFkOM

I'll also post an image of what it looks like when I get the issue.

Any Help Is Greatly Appreciated.adobe help.PNG

I would guess that you have all of your 3D layers in the same plane. When setting up 3D projects you should have at least 2 comp views open so you can clearly see the positions of the 3D layers. The rotating image must be in front of any other layers.

I would guess that you have all of your 3D layers in the same plane. When setting up 3D projects you should have at least 2 comp views open so you can clearly see the positions of the 3D layers. The rotating image must be in front of any other layers.

The second thing you should do if you are using two different images for your character is to set up an opacity change so when the image is facing away from the camera it is not visible. You can keyframe the opacity but an easier way is to use the expression from Dan Ebberts's Expressioneering Design Guide, to hide the layer when it is not facing the camera.

Then if you rotate the back layer 180º, parent the front layer to the back layer, animate the rotation of the front layer everything will work out perfectly.

Thanks a bunch,

Turns out my background was 3D, which is what was causing the issue.

🙂
