I have a new MacBook Pro with latest version After Effects. I'm trying to work on a project from my older MacBook Pro that had a slightly older version of After Effects. I can open comps a couple times then I get a crash when opening them. It can even be a comp that I just had open. I've tried all the standard clearing caches, RAM, switching to software only rendering, etc. I'm stuck and can't work more than 5-minutes at a time now because it crashes. HELP PLEASE. I have attached the crash report.

Try a couple of things:

- If you are using third party plugins, be sure to have the latest versions for this version of AE

- Try to delete your cache. Edit > Purge > All Memory and Disk Cache.

- Try to deactivate GPU acceleration by going to File > Project Settings > Video Rendering and Effects tab. Choose Mercury software only

I've done all these things, including removing all third-party plugins, and the problem still occurs. At this point I will have to use my old computer to work. Any additional help would be appreciated.

Well after recreating the crash numerous times it seems it only happens when I put the project window on an external monitor and the timeline on my Macbook screen. When the windows are gathered together on either screen it won't crash. What could that mean???

Hi Playroom Creative,

Sorry for your issue.

Have you tried resetting the preferences of After Effects? Here's how: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-after-effects/td-...

Let us know if it helps.

Thanks,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I mentioned I've done all that. I've even talked to Adobe tech support and downgraded, and I still have the problem.
