AME rendering extremely slowly

New Here ,

Hi guys,

is anybody experiencing the same problem?

I am trying to export 3 minutes video as an mp4 from after effects. Somehow it is talking more than an hour when its apple equivalent motion or also Final cut would take just minutes.

There is something wrong for sure. The slowness is embarrassing, annoying and seriously damaging my work. I really need help guys. My company invests a good amount of money thinking on a mac but for now, the overall performance with adobe after effects has been pretty low.

I am working on an iMac with this specs:

Model Identifier: iMac18,3

  Processor Name: Intel Core i7

  Processor Speed: 4.2 GHz

  Number of Processors: 1

  Total Number of Cores: 4

  Memory: 32 GB

Graphics: Radeon Pro 580   8 GB

Thanks a lot

costumer service won't be able to help you in this type of problem. only training and experience. you should read about optimizing your project Improve performance in After Effects it could be anything that slows down your rendering.

How much quicker is it by rendering out from After Effects via the Render Queue, to ProRes422 for instance? I've noticed (with previous versions of AME) that doing it this way, and then encoding the ProRes to H264, can be muuuuch faster.

Hi Peter,

Thanks a lot for your reply but it didn't do the trick for me. It's still very slow

Look at the time in this screenshot from AME. it's more than three hours.

SHAME ON ADOBE SERIOUSLY. I'm just trying to export a 3-minute mp4 video.

Pity you can't hear the fan of this machine

I am really worried now

I’m suggesting not using AME at all. Instead add a render item to After Effects’ render queue, and render inside after effects. If that’s just as slow, then your problem is not with AME.

I tried in AE by using its own export but nothing really. Apple Pro Res didn't work. Animation seemed faster but then it became so slow again. Sorry

But thanks for your help

you are comparing apples to oranges. After Effects is a compositing and animation app that renders uncompressed pixel data and not a video stream like FCP or Premiere. it also do not rely on the GPU like an editing software.  3 minutes in After Effects is a long duration that should take sometime. Animation codec is the fastest you are going to get. the file is going to be very large and then you can use AME for that file to get an mp4 compressed video file. this is not for speed really but more for later if you are not happy with the compression, you can compress that lossless file again instead of re-rendering the whole thing.

Who's the apples and who's the oranges though....

I talked to somebody from adobe customer service and they tried remotely to fix this issue. Eventually, he didn't know what to do and we ended up with have a good day. I just wonder why adobe does not have an option to render video stream. And anyway I tried to render the same project on another mac without video footage and it still took about 2 hours to render basically text, some solids and few blur effects. IT's just so bad...

This is the screenshot of my AME rendering after I talked to the customer service (have fun). Still, 4 hours to go.

Not all of us are working for media company, visual effects company and so on.

Imagine to explain to your boss CPU, GPU, fps, Rendering and so on.
They just want a simple video tutorial ready. Not 4 hours. It's ridiculous
