I have an After Effects project that was built on a MAC and sent to me by another editor. I have a PC. Any one know how to convert a MAC AE project to windows. Is there an app? or can it be converted in the PC.
As long as your version of AE on the computer you want to open a project is the same version or newer than the version on the computer used to create the project the project will open just fine. You cannot open a CC 2015 project file on a computer running CC 2014 but the platform doesn't make any difference.
This is a perfect example of asking a question before you try to do something.

Hi Rick,
I have seen AE templates that include both a Mac version and a Windows version.
Why do they do that? Could it be that there are different Help files in the download?

The only reason would be included footage that may not be compatible with all systems. In most cases, both platforms will playback all footage commonly used in production. There are exceptions.
As far the AEP file goes the only difference is the metadata that tells you what system was used to save the last version of the project. AEP files have always been usable on either platform as long as the versions match or the new machine has a slightly newer version of AE. AEP files have never been backward version compatible.
