Dialogue Workflow Question

Hello,

Was looking to see if there was a better way to do this. I'm making an animated short that relies on written dialogue at the bottom of the screen (think of like captions, or the text in an RPG game).

Right now I have each dialogue part on separate text layers (lots and lots of layers). This makes it easy for me to find a piece of text if I need to change it, but if I need to change the pacing or move things around, then I have to move all the layers after it at once, etc., to make things stay in good sequence/timing. My other option is to just use one text layer and change it with keys, but that can be a hassle to manage.

I was wondering if there was a better way to do this or if there's some kind of plugin or something that can make managing this easier. I know this is probably a niche question but wanted to see what was out there, thanks.

If the comp is more than a few seconds long do your subtitling in Premiere Pro. It will be about a hundred times faster and easier to edit.

I would use the Extended Graphics system to set it up then just start going. AE is a really inefficient tool for subtitling.
