I'm sure you're aware that what you see in that video was not done in AE or any post production software.

It's done with live motion tracking & satellite GPS.

But to try and do it in AE you either need to use motion tracking on the ball and then parent a shape with an echo effect or a particle emitter to the motion path

or

just create a path by hand and use tirm paths operation to create the tracer.

I would think doing it by hand is the faster workflow since trying to motion track a golfball that's 3

I would think doing it by hand is the faster workflow since trying to motion track a golfball that's 300 yards from the camera might take some time.

The Write-on effect will allow you to adjust the width of a stroke. Further, you can use the Expression pick whip to link the the Write-on effect's position property to the motion tracked data.

You would have to motion track the ball and then employ one of several possible options parenting something to the motion tracked null.

You cna use the write-on effect like Roland Kahlenberg said or you can parent a shape and use echo or even a particle emitter.

However I suspect it will be a problem trying to motion track a white golf ball flying 300yards away from the camera as they quickly become nearly invisible.   This means you would have to manually draw a bezier path and then add the stroke.  Again there are several ways to do this.  I think you can use the Write-On mentioned earlier or RedGiant 3D Stroke if you own it or there is great free preset Path Arrow
