mbl crashing ae

after effects keeps crashing everytime i press "edit..." on the mbl effect, and whenever i try to put a mbl preset it doesnt show the coloring but it says its put in ?
this is the first time it has happened
i've tried reinstalling both after effects and magic bullet looks, restarted my computer idk what else there is to do

im using version 17.5.1 of after effects and version 14.0.2 in mbl
im using a macOS high sierra 10.13.6
