hi, so recently i started having this issue when ae decides it wants to mess up the 3d layer and turn it into a 2d.
i make a cube, then precompose the layer, and it just turns into a single, flat image. it never did this to me before and i don't understand why it would now. this is happening in cs6, i work in cc 2019 also and this never happens. i can provide a screen shot if you don't understand what i mean.
If you pre-compose a bunch of 3D layers and you Collapse Transformations any camera moves or lights in the main comp will interact with 3D layers in the Pre-comp (nested comp) and ignore all lights and cameras in the nested comp. This behavior has not changed.
Changing the nested comp to a 3D layer will allow you to move all of the grouped 3D objects in the nested comp and move them around in the main comp's 3D world.

Start by checking your composition's Advanced Settings. Maybe you messed up the 3D renderer settings.

If you do not collapse transformations, the selection box between the Shy symbol and quality slash does not show a * then you just have a 2D layer.
If turning on Collapse transformations does not help you fix the problem then we need screenshots, OS and workflow details to help you fix the problem.

not sure if this helps but it helped me from things moving after making a precomp and this simple. Make sure precomp is on top. Make sure 3d box is on for the precomp whole. Make sure you have tiny star on as well in this photo. It's an automatic link for all in the composition. Lmk if this helps or if you already solved your issue and how
