Hi,
I have just purchased a new laptop and am trying to install CS6 apps through AAM onto it, but everytime I go to install a program it says 'Installation Failed' and 'Administrator privileges are required to install. Please retry, or cancel to install later.'
I am using the administrator account, and its the only one on the mac.
Have tried finding answers to this but none seem to work. I'm stuck!!

HI tashk85 ,
Welcome to Adobe Community.
We are really sorry that you are facing that issue .perhaps the following steps might be helpful.
1) Check the permissions on /Lib & ~/Lib.
2) If not already given, please provide full Read & Write priveledge to these accounts and also then click on the settings button just below the user group and Click on Apply to Enclosed Items.
kindly confirm if that resolves the problem or not for us.

Tashk85 if you are receiving an error that you do not have sufficient permissions to install the software then please try installing under a newly created local Administrator account. A normal administrator account should not run into these difficulties so it would appear the file permissions under your current account have been damaged.
Alternately you can review your installation logs to more accurately identify where the file permission errors are occurring. Please see Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html for information on how to locate and interpret your installation log files.

This is my token number from the Adobe Support Advisor: 40-13120-004515062013
I don't understand why it's saying I don't have administrator privileges, when all other applications I've installed have worked without any issue.
This is from my installation logs:

Can you be more specific as to the location of the "/Lib & ~/Lib" folders/files requiring admin privileges?

It's possible that the Creative Cloud desktop has not been tested on Windows 8 (W8). I've experienced the same problems as everyone else with W8, but no problems with W7.

Just posting this in the hopes that it helps someone...
I didn't have any problems on my mac, so not sure if this is any help to the mac folks or not?
I did, however, have this issue with the update on my PC (Windows 7 Pro 64bit), and I was looking for a solution online while I tried the install again. I was reading this thread when I got a windows dialog asking if I wanted to allow the install, so I said yes, then I got a prompt from my AVG asking if I wanted to allow. The first time I tried the install (when it failed with this administrator message), I had moved over to my macbook and gone back to work, so I didn't see these dialogs, and they weren't on the screen when I came back, there was just the failed install administrator message from the adobe installer. It appears that there may be a timeout feature of sorts on the installer, and you might get this message if another app is blocking the install in some way, and in my case, both the windows dialoge and the AVG dialog had self terminated before I got back to see them.
What might work, if you did the same thing I did and walked away to let the install do it's thing, is watch the install, so you can answer the dialogs that may pop up. Also, if you are running virus protection, you might need to set an exeption for the installer. Turn off firewalls etc, and try again.
Anyway, once I found what was blocking the install process it installed fine with no permissions changes, account changes, or anything like that.
Hope this helps someone ![]()

This has been happening to me as well. It seems to be caused by something in the OS failing to correctly ask your for your password.
What should happen after receiving the dialog box stating administrator priviledgs are required is the normal administrator name and password entry box pops up as when installing most applications and similar files. For some reason the box fails to appear. I'm not sure if it is an Adobe thing, an Apple thing, but my guess it's something happening in the normal course of using the computer and some condition changes. Guessing other applications might have problems installing as well when this happens, but with CC the process is more frequent so it seems to catch it.
In the past I resolved it by logging on as root user. Sort of a pain. Today I decided to try and figure it out a little more, and went to my users and groups preference pane. I thought I could click the lock there and maybe get around it when I found the same problem, clicking the lock did not bring up the name/password dialog box.
So the fix was pretty simple, reboot the mac which clears whatever has happened up. Then I went users and groups and this time was successful in clicking the lock and entering a name and password. Told creative Cloud desktop to update, where I also got the "need adminstrator priviledges" warning, but then the name/password dialog popped up and everything was fine.

You can only update Adobe with administrative privileges. There are a number of ways to achieve this and it also depends if you're running with UAC enabled.
If you are and administrator of PC and UAC is enabled, right click the program and select Run as Administrator - that should then run the update.
If running with UAC disabled and you are not an administrator, then, use the START/PROGRAMS to required start menu item, press and hold SHIFT and right mouse click the required program, select Run As Other User. Enter the username and password of a user with admin rights to PC
You can also open a command prompt and use the runas command ie, start a command prompt and enter -
runas /user:youradminusername "c:\program files\path to executable"
You should then get prompted for youradminusebame password
The only issue here is you need to ensure the path to the program being accessed is available to the youradminusername ie. it's not in a user profile (I copy such to c:\temp or public profile folders.
Software writers are going to have to adjust their update procedures especially on company PCs as more and more are not running users with admin rights on the PCs. This drastically reduces support calls for malware and illegal software as users can no longer simply install what they want without getting IT administrators help. I personally create a user in active directory and add that user as local administrator to every PC. I then disable the account in active directory. If someone wants to install a program or update and I'm unable to attend or access PC then I enable the account created, give the user the password for them to use in the above and then disable the account once update is complete....
Adobe take note - please produce a procedure where by standard non-users can update your wares ......

How are admins of a domain supposed to control the updates on this? I am not allowing my standard user to be a local admin.

When this happened to me I copied and pasted the app files to my administrative user disc on the computer and started it from there. That worked for me.

Sorry - my computer talk is really sloppy. In my Mac, when I use finder, there is a list of folders and "drives" (that's what I meant when I said "disc." When I click the drive for the whole computer, if offers me a list of other folders that relate to the various users on my computer. One of those usernames is an administrative user. However, the application downloads from Adobe have been going to a non-administrator user name. Adobe Acrobat worked for a long time at this location for a long time, until one day it just didn't. (Don't ask me why.) My workaround was to copy the Adobe Acrobat files to the app files under the adminsitrative user name and open the app from that location. It worked. I am not an IT person so forgive my lack of computer terminology.

got it. thank you.
using a different user account (that has admin privileges) is a common solution to many adobe issues. why a previous user account becomes problematic, i don't know but others commonly refer to it becoming corrupted.
