vá no menu EFEITO - CAMINHO - DESLOCAR CAMINHO e após fazer isso vá no menu OBJETO - EXPANDIR APARÊNCIA
Utilizando esse processo você não terá objetos duplicados.

You are applying Offset Path to an open path. The behaviour you're encountering is normal in Illustrator.

There are several things you can do:

- With the Direct Selection tool select and delete the parts you don't want.

- Or: Create custom (Art) brushes to offset only to the right or left according to the path direction.

- Or: Use a plugin like Rick Johnson's ToolShed suite.
