Unable to open a DropBox file in Illustrator getting Error "Can't Open the illustration file ID:-54"

Can someone save me from breaking this computer?

I need help with opening the AI files that were saved with CS6.

I tried to the file, but "Can't open the illustration.  The file is locked or in use.  ID: -54"

The files were from a different computer which are saved in dropbox.

Thank you...

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. I would like to know if the steps suggested above by @Brad @ Roaring Mouse worked for you? If not, I would request you to share a few more details like:

  • OS and version of Illustrtaor
  • Did you tried downloading the file on your system and then opening it in Illustrator.
  • If still, it doesn't open, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.

Thanks & Regards,

Check permissions on the folder/files on dropbox. If it was another person, they may have set it for read-only.
