Cannot select Text boxes, Lines, Squares etc.

I already restarted Indesign, my computer and reset the settings of indesign.

Hi,

It looks as though the object that you are trying to select exists on a master page (that's why the frame is dotted).

You need to either command-shift-click (or control-shift-click) the object to unlock it from the master so you can edit it, or go to the master itself and edit it there.

Malcolm is correct.

The shown frame exists on your master page and you happen to be on your pages other than master page. Just go the master page by double clicking on your master page in pages panel as:

And then you will be able to edit everything you draw on the master page. A Master Page is a nonprinting page that you can use as the template for the rest of the pages in your document.  Master pages can contain text and graphic elements that will appear on all pages of a publication (i.e. headers, footers, page numbers, etc.)  By default, every InDesign document you create contains two masters, one for pages on the left and one for those on the right.

I wish it was the masterpage, but I cannot select the masterpage either

It's not clear what you mean by "cannot select the master page." Generally speaking, it's not enough to state that you cannot do something. To help you, we'd need a more detailed description of how you're going about your attempts.

To select/edit items on a master page, you must navigate to that master page using the Pages panel (double-click on the master page thumbnail in the top section of the panel). Once you're there, you can select and operate on items in ordinary fashion.

Or, you can override the master page item(s) from a document page. (The latter was described in post #1; 'command-shift-click (or control-shift-click) the object to unlock it from the master'.) This essentially makes a copy of the item which becomes live for editing on the document page.

    Hi jromei

    To select your masterpage, as I said just go to your pages panel which you can find in the right pane or you can go to Window -> Pages. At the top you can see A- Master written. Just double click on it and it gets selected. Then you can edit the objects on that page.

    Please let me know if this resolves your issue.
