Feature request: set solid (leading)

OG type guy here, this is really a suggestion for ALL Adobe products but I thought InDesign folks would be the most sympathetic ones.

I believe the majority of design professionals would agree that the default leading (120%) may be acceptable at smaller sizes, but is FAR too much leading for display sizes. It seems to me that the easiest solution for all concerned (including the poor overworked and underpaid coders lol) would be to add a “solid” option to the leading menu — you can keep “default” at 120% and add 100% (whatever you want to call it, I understand that “solid” isn’t a term the layperson would know) OR have a preference to set “default” too 100% or 120%.

What say you all?

With no documents open you can set the auto justification to 100%.

That will be default for all new documents.

It wouldn't affect previously created documents.

It's also something that is part of the Paragraph Style.

And you should be using Paragraph Styles.

Typically, I create the Body Text style first, then when creating other Paragraph Styles I will use the Based On style.

Then you only have to adjust the Body Text style to change the auto leading.

I use  Auto Leading all the time for complex leaflets, and it's great for reducing space everywhere to fit text in tight spaces.

All professional typographers would define leading via Paragraph Styles.

You can achieve solid leading by changing the Justification options for your style to 100% for Auto Leading. This only affects the selected paragraphs or style.

I almost never use auto leading. That avoids the problem.

I agree, and to set font size and leading is quick and trivial. But a "keep proportional" option would be useful sometimes, not to follow a arbitrary value but maintain a set ratio. Sort of half-auto.

Quark had/has a nice feature--set the leading by adding on to the type size. For example, if you put "+2" in the leading area, it would be 12/14 or 24/26. I remember asking for that in InDesign a long time ago.
