Paste an object from Illustrator to InDesign without formatting loss

Greetings!

So I basically just wanted to copy and paste an object I made with Illustrator to InDesign, which usually always worked. But this time, when I pasted the object into InDesign, the object appeared a bit different and I can't figure out the issue.

I attached the files here and how it looks to me in InDesign, hopefully someone can help!

(I've been working with default app and saving settings so far)

Two suggestions:

1. File > Place an Illustrator file into InDesign

IOW, rarely copy n paste anything other than the simplest drawing from Illustrator to InDesign.

2. Save-As any old eps file as a native .ai file in Illustrator. Place .ai files into InDesign

You need to 'expand the appearance' of the circle with the dashed line first.

Then expand the stroke.

now you can copy paste from ai to indd

You could also place / drag drop the eps in inDesign without expanding the appearance.

No offense, but that is a poor approach. The right approach is:

Don't copy n paste (which is limited to a max of 500 anchor points, IIRC)

Don't use EPS. Use .AI Illustrator files.

Hello again Mike,

I usually do use .AI files but I somehow couldn't attach that file type.

Thanks to you two for helping me with this case anyway!

Both ways worked!

Oh wow, I totally forgot about that placing tool...

Thank you so much, Mike!
