I am laying out a book with 2 colums on a page. Sometimes, when I drag a column text frame over to a vacent column with no text frame, the text in the frame on the other side of the vacant column disappears. What's going on and how do I fix this?

Does this occur every time you move a text frame to a vacant column? Can you create a screen captures of the way the book looks before and after you make that move to share with us?

This only occurs occasionally.

There could be some subtle corruption in the document. You might try saving it as IDML (File > Save As > InDesign CS4 or Later [IDML]. Then reopen it in InDesign and see if the problem goes away.

Select the text frame that has the disappearing text and go into the Text frame Options dialog (Object>Text Frame Options) and select the option to "Ignore Text Wrap". If it's just a matter of an object somewhere on the spread having Text Wrap applied to it then selecting the ignore option will take care of it.
