After upgraded to 13 then to 13.0.1 - Lightroom simply quits/closes with no crash message.

Lightroom has been rock solid for as long as I can remember. Recently (version 13?) it simply closes for no reason and with no crash info - just vanishes/closes. I may not even be using it (it's running in the background) and it quits. It's totally random when it happens and there is no warning, crash or error code.  Sometimes I can work for 15 minutes before it occurs. My PC continues to run fine. What I've tried:

  • I've updated to 13.0.1 as it listed critical bug fixes and it still simply quits.
  • I've also tried updating my Nvidia Studio drivers, and even rolling them back to earlier versions - no luck.
  • I've done nothing to my PC other than update Lightroom which is when the issue started.
  • I have a super beefy PC (Windows 11) with 64 gigs of ram, 13th gen i9 processor, GeForce 3080 card with 10GB VRAM.
  • Restarted my PC (duh)
  • I've optimized the LR catalog. Still randomly happens.
  • I've also checked my disk drives for errors, none found.
  • I've turned OFF the graphics acceleration in Lightroom and it still randomly happens.

Anyone else or ideas?

Anybody still experiencing this? My LRC is constantly closing with no warning, any version I try. I've done all of the remedies listed here. The only thing that makes the crashes less frequent is disabling the GPU(3080ti, tested with latest and older game ready and studio drivers.) I have tested the GPU through different benchmark and diagnostic programs all passing with flying colors. Adobe support was no help over multiple days of chatting. Even going as far as telling me it's a kink with the newest update and that it will "work itself out" even though I've tried multiple versions.

Update to 13.3.  I had the same problems after leaving ver 12 to go to 13.  Made life miserable.  Finally made it to version 13.3.  This is much more stable.  I suspect some aspects of 13.1 and 13.2 may have been oversensitive to video cards, drivers, or memory issues.  We may never know if/how Adobe addressed the issues.  Try 13.3 and return to the conversation.

Thanks for the reply, things have still not gotten better, even with the new update this morning LRC crashed in the first 2 minutes. I'm still trouble shooting daily with no improvements.

Thinking back, the only difference from when it did not crash at all is that I have installed a Synology NAS, but I can't remember if it was even RIGHT when I added that or if it was shortly after. Does anyone know if a network drive can cause issues with LRC? I still edit off an internal SSD, and only use the NAS for a copy on import.

I Can also confirm I have this issue. I have tried every solution suggested in this thread with no difference. I can't even suggest what triggers it as there is no discernable pattern as to why or when it happens.

and update 13.0.2 has not fixed it.

Update 13.1 has not fixed the issue. 4 crashes - 2 whilst working in develop mode scrolling through the filmstrip, once after exporting a picture to photoshop and once when left unattended so no actions being taken.

This problem persists -

I've uninstalled Lightroom, reinstalled it.  I've went back to 13.0 still happens. I've even deleted my Previews folder as it happens most often when I am moving through my images on the filmstrip at the bottom.  There is always a short hourglass (Windows 11 reminder) that appears before it crashes/vanishes.  I've even moved my catalog to a faster drive - still happens. The only constant is Lightroom's update to 13.0.  I'd love some help from the Adobe moderaterators - acknowledgement that they see this post or something.........

I ve found a 'solution' to avoid the repetitive crash during my work.  I work on lighter 'catalog'.  As I'm an event photographer with a lot o files to edit everytime I've tried to make a different catalog for each event, work on it and then I fuse this temporary catalog with my main one.  Not the best 'solution' but  I can work without interruptions.
Hoping it'll can help you, but hoping that the problem will be fixed by Adobe...

I think it has something to do with the Presets and the Develop History. I've found it crashes only when the History panel is visible. I removed all my presets (made a backup before) and now it doesn't crash. Another thing I tried is changing their names, apparently with a shorter name the preset works fine. I think it's a software bug. I hope it gets fixed soon...

Hi, I get the same problem and it's very annoying... I've tried the different 'ideas' but the 'problem' is not fixed... LR don't keep crashing every 2,3 or 4 pics...

Again.. similar crashng problem -most recently with 13.01 simply sitting open for minutes with no commands. I've listed the windows error log for the error as attachemnt doc.  (also updateded the nvidia driver this morning.

Did the previous LrC session end nicely, or did it crash? Or did you force quit? As such, have you checked for a errant lock file?

Hmmm.  I did actually doa force quit when it seemed to be locked up a couple of days ago....  (Task manager in windows, end task) - how can I check for an errant lock file and what do I need to do?
