Release 14.2 cannot open Lightroom edited photos in Photoshop 26.5 or Photoshop Beta 26.6. Opens Smart Objects without a problem.
This problem typically manifests when the Uninstall of any version of Photoshop is the last Photoshop Install/Reinstall operation performed. If the last whole-app operation is an install or a reinstall, it typically cures the issue. The Photoshop team is aware of the issue
It normally happens to customers who have more than one version of Photoshop installed or are running the current version alongside a Photoshop Beta version.

If you encounter an issue where PS will not launch on an "Edit in…" operation, installing or reinstalling the latest version of PS should correct the situation.
If you continue to see a different issue where PS launches on a Lightroom, "Edit In…" operation, but no image appears, that usually means your Photoshop Application has a bad preference file and needs to have its preferences reset.
UPDATE (04/09/2025)
If after uninstalling/reinstalling, installing, or resetting the preferences, you still have this issue, the team has asked for a copy of a specific file:
Copy the file, notify us in this thread and be prepared to share it.

Rick, I am experiencing the latter problem - the blank screen. How do we Reset PS Beta's preferences? And, if we do, do we have to MANUALLY re-establish them all again (painful) or is there away to some sort of Save / Re-set / Re-apply.

thanks, jc

...and a followup... a few hours later. I used Creative Cloud to install 26.5, thus falling back from 26.6 ... and that worked. So, with that done, I rolled forward again to 26.6 PS Beta and that is now working properly as well.

This jsut started today. I selected 3 files in Lightroom Classic, right click and choose "Open as layers in Photoshop". After a few seconds, the focus switches to the Photoshop window and then nothing happens. No matter how long I wait, the files never open in Photoshop, not as layers, and the same thing happens when try to open a single file in photoshop. It just refuses to work. I know I'm not doing anything wrong because I'm done this a thousand times the same way. I only noticed this today, and I updated everything to the latest versions of both programs a couple of days ago.
Is anyone else having this troule and if so, what did you do to fix it? All help will be appreciated!

I uninstalled Photoshop Beata, kept the preferences, then reinstalled Photoshop Beata. Now everything is working like it is supposed to. How long that will last I have no idea but it's working right, for now anyway.

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Hello,
Please look at the post https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-beta-bugs/photoshop-beta-26-6-0/idc-p/15243513#M18961
I described an issue between Lightroom and Photoshop, thinking first the problem was Photoshop.
Thanks.

Hi, thanks for reaching out! Try uninstalling Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, and Photoshop Beta using the Creative Cloud cleaner tool and then re-install them through the Creative Cloud desktop app.
You can check out the steps to use the Creative Cloud cleaner tool here: https://adobe.ly/4hSWTVt

Hello,
By performing the following steps, the issue was fixed 🙂
I'm not sure opening new installation of Photoshop before using Lightroom Classic was useful.
Many thanks for your help.

Hey @ltyson574,
Can you share what version of Lightroom and Photoshop you're using? You can find this by going to Help > System Info. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling both programs to see if that helps?

I know this subject has been posted several times on this forum but it is an issue on my new Mac Mini that I just cannot resolve and so I am reaching out for someone to help.
When I try to open a RAW file from Lightroom Classic (LrC) in to Photoshop 2025 v26.4.1 it will open the Photoshop app but will not actually open the image. However if I locate the RAW file in the Finder and double click on it, the file will open in Adobe Camera RAW.
It also appears to affect JPG and PSD files as well, as it will open a file when I select the "Edit Original" option in the pop up dialog box but refuses to open the file when I choose the "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments" option.
I even went to some considerable effort to format my Mac Mini M4 and reinstall everything in the hope it would resolve the situation but no luck. I also uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop as suggested in other posts but once again this has failed to resolve the problem.
I really need the integration with LrC and Ps to work for my workflow.
Please help.

Hey, @Printdevil. Thanks for posting the details. You've already tried a series of steps.
You can try these steps to set up or recreate the link between Lightroom Classic & Photoshop 2025.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks!

Hi Sameer,
I followed all the steps to the letter but it is still the same. RAW files do not open at all directly from Lightroom Classic but Photoshop PSD files do providing I chose Open Original option. However if I chose Open with Lightrrom Edits it doesn't open in Ps at all.
I know there is nothing wrong with the LrC catalog itself as I use it on a daily basis on my Mac Studio at work on my external drive. I have just created a new catalog on my Mac Mini hard drive just to test it and the problem is still there on that catalog as well so the issue must be with the application itself and the relationship between LrC and Ps.
This problem also prevents me from opening several RAW files as one layered Ps file, which is something I do quite often, so this issue is really affecting my workflow.
What can I try now to resolve this?

@Printdevil , You stated " This problem also prevents me from opening several RAW files as one layered Ps file, which is something I do quite often, so this issue is really affecting my workflow."
I am not sure what you do to achieve this a far as I am aware LrC does not work with layers.
Please explain how you open several raw files to Ps as layers? Do you do this directly with Ps?
Ok I see there is an option available in the edit in option in LrC to " open multiple images as layers in Ps". What happens if you choose that option do you get an error message?

As I said, the problem I am having prevents the files from opening as a layered Photoshop file so it seems whether it is a single RAW file or multiple files it simply won't open in Photoshop.
It's so frustrating especially as this has never happened on my Mac Studio at work it just seems to be on my home Mac Mini. I know I am not the only one experiencing this but I have yet to find a conclusive solution.

Hi, @Sameer K
Did you see my response to say that your reinstallation explanation didn't work for me and the RAW files still will not open directly from within Lightroom Classic.
What do you think I could try next?

Thanks for sharing the details, David. At this point, you can try switching out Photoshop with Photoshop (beta).
You can uninstall Photoshop 2025 and install Photoshop (beta) from the Beta Apps section in the Creative Cloud desktop app.
Let us know how it goes. Thanks!

Hi Sameer,
I have just installed Ps Beta but unfortunately that hasn't resolved it so I am still having to deal with this problem. I also tried booting up in Safe Mode but that didn't work either.
I don’t know if this is unique to the M4 chip that I have in my Mac mini as this problem has never happened on my MacStudio (with an M1 Ultra chip) I have at work.
My only workaround is to open my Nikon NEF RAW files as Smart Objects which does work! However when I close this image in Photoshop every time I get an error message pop up saying…
Error 2: photoshop is undefined.

I hope you can help reslove this as I know I am no the only one suffering.

Thanks for sharing these details. Please confirm if Lightroom & Photoshop are being launched with Rosetta Emulation. If not, try launching both apps in Rosetta once and check how it goes.
You can follow the steps here to get Lightroom & Photoshop to launch in emulation: https://adobe.ly/3RcqnCI
Let me know how it goes. Thanks!
