P: Low quality previews/rotated thumbnails on direct import to device

Hi .. on importing to LR mobile via a camera device (SD card via reader) the images have suddenly started to appear blurred and pixelated. 

I have plenty of cloud storage free and this has only started recently.. prior to this all appeared clear and sharp .. allowing them to be reviewed prior to import.

Hello again All,

 

You will now see an update version 8.4 for the Lightroom app, in the iOS Appstore.  Version 8.4 reverts to the behavior of the previous release.  Thumbnails will be sharper again, but some thumbs will appear in the wrong orientation.

 

We believe Apple will likely provide a fix for the orientation issue in their next iOS update.  That should correct the orientation issue without needing an additional LR app update.

This is so sad - Paying a monthly subscription and your software is damaged after updating and the devolper doenst really care. As a profesionell user I cant use it anymore. So ill pay for it, because of the yearly subscription, but there is NO use for it anymore.

It's especially frustrating as it was a bug in the past that got fixed, and then was re-introduced in a recent update. I've been able to work around it by importing everything and then culling but find that sub-optimal as behind the scenes lightroom is trying to synch everything to the cloud despite a large % getting deleted. I turn off synch while culling now but again, band-aids to a larger problem.

Experiencing exactly the same issue here.

 

Hey @Kavita Srivastav, I'm not sure how the team prioritize the works or if the prioritiztion works in the right way, but I'd like to emphasize that this has become so annoying that I will cancel my subscription if this bug is not fixed in the next update. Thanks

Same here - its impossible to check and import a selection of portrait mode photos with this bug. Will cancel the sub too if its wont be fixed soon. In the moment I'll try the mobile version of "Darkroom" - Pretty decent tool without this bug.

The team has been communicating with Apple on this issue, as something appeared to change or break with the platform APIs Lightroom relies on.  The LR engineering team is working on a solution.  Confidentiality prevents me from sharing a precise date--all I can say is a fix is coming soon.  Thanks for reporting this issue and bearing with the issue while a solution was developed.

I import RAW files directly from a memory card into Lightroom.  On the preview screen where I choose which ones I want to import all the preview images are distorted, even worse if I zoom in. When I import them, they are perfectly normal. This was previously not the case and this issue started yesterday. I have checked all the settings and did a reinstall on the Lightroom app.  Any suggestions on how to correct this?

I have found your question because I experience exactly the same. Whilst importing the pics from my device, I suddenly only see them blurred, which is not only a bummer, but a sheer catastrophe. I really hope someone can help to fix this. This is an absolutely new bug, it worked perfectly before. 😞

Hello

The blurry appearance of thumbs is the result of a patch developers applied to an iOS platform problem, where raw image orientation was not always displaying correctly.  Users had described that as a frustrating experience, and a blocker to productivity.

 

The work-around applied was to instead read and display the embedded thumb that exists inside most Raw images these days, and it's the low quality of the embedded thumb that some users now see and are commenting on here.  Quality/resolution of the embedded thumb depends on the camera. 

 

If we revert our workaround, the original problem with orientation will return.  Apple provided us an update stating that they understand the issue and a fix will come in a future iOS update.  We do not know when that fix will release.  We will continue to monitor feedback, bearing in mind that both the previous and also the current behavior are imperfect.  A proper fix is coming, we just can not say how soon.

Hola.. haber si alguien puede ayudarme... pinchó el lector de tarjeta en el iPad.. para seleccionar las imágenes y mi sorpresa es que las imágenes están borrosas, y hasta hace unos días las imágenes se veían bien al pinchar el lector de tarjeta, llevo un año haciéndolo y hasta hace unos días no puedo ver las imágenes nitidas, he actualizado el iPad y también Lightroom lo he desistalado y lo he vuelto a poner.. gracias

Thanks for reaching out with this issue. By the image you attached, looks like the thumbnail size is increased to large thumbs (Max.). I am seeing the same issue when I enlarge the thumbs to max size. I will create create a ticket to get this fixed.

Could you confirm if you are seeing the same issue when you reduce the thumb size to normal or small ?

It appears to be worse now. All I get is a ultra low-res preview, but at least it doesn't rotate? 

 

This is what used to happed:

  1. Low res images load
  2. High res images load
  3. His res images immediately rotate

 

Now all you get is #1.

Hello!

 

Recently the import image preview is very blurry / pixelated, previously it was okay as we can see the images and can even zoom in to see if the image is in focus. Now, the pictures are very blurry up to the point it is unusable unless we import the files. Is there anyone else having the same issue? 

 

The issue is present on both iPad (Version 8.3.2) and iPhone (Version 8.3.2). I tried contacting support but was ghosted by the support agent after asking me to reinstall the app (FYI it didn't resolve the issue). Was the recent update a bad update?

 

Attach is an example of the blurryness. Now the import preview is basically useless.

 

I have tried for the images from Fuji X-T5 and Sony A7C, both are experiencing the same issue.
