P: (MS App Store Version) Message: Some photos were not added. Unable to copy file.

Community Beginner ,
Jul 13, 2021 Jul 13, 2021

Hi, I've recently subscribed to Lightroom and am being met with this error message upon trying to import any images.

'Some photos were not added. Unable to copy file.'

I've seen 2 other posts on here of the same issue but the solutions posted there didn't work.

I'm using windows 10, imported the files from my SD card to my hard drive. I am then trying to import to lightroom from my hard drive.

Thanks in advance

Greetings,

Updates for Adobe Photography products began rolling out Tuesday night, August 16th,  The updates contain a fix for this issue.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Thank you for your patience.

If you are seeing this error and had downloaded Lightroom from the Microsoft Store, please try installing Lightroom from https://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom.html instead.

For others, I wonder if you could be running low on disk space? We should be giving proper messaging if so, but that's the current theory I'm trying to run down. You can tell Lightroom to take up less space locally by going to Edit > Preferences > Local Storage and reducing the "photo cache size"LocalStorage.png

I'd appreciat

I was just going to post this here. Apparantly there is something wrong with the Microsoft store version of Lightroom that prevents importing.

I am back to the issue of a stuck sync. Sync under the cloud on the top right shows a single pending item.

Click view pending or sync status; shows nothing.

The log format changed, and I cannot in the new format determine which image is stuck.

Finally i have been plagues by the same issue. I have a seperate drive partiton for Lightroom data and today suddenly while importing it took awfully long, only to send me a message that some photos were not copied. It did manage to copy most of the files but after that it just doesnt copy any file anymore.

i tried copying the files from SD card to Hardisk and the importing, restarting, logging out but to no avail!!

i have been a registered user for around 3 years now am running the latest version (obviously) as part of my subscription.

Waiting for a solution to this

I can't import my photos into lightroom anymore. When I try to import them into lightroom from my fuji XE3 it sometimes imports a couple pictures but for the rest I get a pop-up screen saying "some photos could not be downloaded" and then it shows the ones that weren't imported. The weird thing is, that when I choose the photos from my computer again and then click import, some of the photos that I couldn't import before are now imported but for the rest it still says, that they can't be downloaded.

I can't find anything on the internet and before it also worked fine, so I don't know why it suddenly doesn't work properly anymore. I haven't posted anything here before or read a lot of posts here, so just ask if something is not clear or I forgot to do/explain something

Adobe told me to reinstall directly from them (my version was from
Microsoft store). That solved my problem. Good luck

I'm struggling to add photos and it is insanely frustrating. I've got 19 out of 35 photos that just refuse to import. At first I thought maybe the name was getting in the way, but multiple photo name changes resulted in nothing. Googling my issue led me to a setting in File Handling, which I can't seem to locate anywhere on th app. Would appreciate any help or tips to solving this issue. Lightroom doesn't specify why the photos can't be imported, which is even more frustrating.

mogellq, please follow the guidance at the top of the page to move to the build of Lightroom found on adobe.com rather than the one on the Microsoft Store.

The same guidance as above applies to you, Alma. Please stop using the Microsoft Store build of Lightroom and move to the one found on adobe.com.

Does this link work for you? Look for the Lightroom icon here and click Install.

Not sure if anyone has found a fix. But I did, well, a bypass rather. I started lightroom.adobe.com and add photos from there. Mine were film scans and I had about 200 of them. Failed miserably when using Lightroom Desktop (not Classic). Uploaded a few, failed most; restart Lightroom, get a few more success...and so on. But at the webpage version, I seletec all of them and boom! Everything was uploaded without issues. (My files were about 3-4MB large, jpg).

I think it's related to how Lightroom is using cache or memory. It has to be fixed but right now, using the webpage version seems to work good enough.

Update (Dec 21, 2021)

Greetings all,

Recent research by engineering on this problem has revealed a few cluesbut we still need to collect additional information from you.

1. Make sure you are downloading via the Creative Cloud app and installing version 5.1 and not the Microsoft Windows App Store version.

2. If are importing directly from an SD card / device / phone, can you attempt reproduce while importing the same set of photos directly from disk instead.

If downloading from the Creative Cloud app and have installed version 5.1 and attempting an import from the hard drive instead of the card/device, and you are still seeing the error then we need to collect a Diagnostic Log from you.

For LrDesktop

  • Go to Preferences
  • Account Section
  • Hold down the [Opt/Alt] key to make [Diagnostic Log] button appear

If you have a diagnostic log ready to send respond here indicating thus and I will contact you.

Thank you for your patience.

If you are having trouble getting the adobe.com version to install (rather than the Microsoft Store version), please try the following sequence.

  1. Uninstall the MS Store version of Lightroom
  2. Restart your machine
  3. Install from https://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom.html

Thanks. I have two windows PC that have same problem. Both were running Microsoft Store version. I'll replace them with the version from Adobe website and report back if problem persists.

Side question: if we know (for sure?) that the 5.1 version on Adobe website works and the one on Microsoft Store doesn't, why can't we go ahead to update the latter so that the auto update mechanism gets this fixed?
