Lightroom edits (exported in .jpg large) do not show up when opened in Photoshop

This is a new issue for me. I had no issues prior to this so I'm not sure if it's an update or something I changed by accident. When I open the Lightroom edited image from my files in Photoshop, it opens the unedited version. But I've made sure it's the correct file and there's no naming conflict.

Now, it only opens the edited one when I export in Original + Settings, because it opens up camera raw on Photoshop. But it's pretty annoying because I have to change the bit depth everytime in order to colour it.

If relevant: I'm using 2022 M2 Macbook Pro on Sonoma 14.4.1

To help you get some answers to your question, I have some questions-

Are you editing in 'Local' or 'Cloud' mode of Lightroom?

Why are you specifically 'exporting' files to then edit in Photoshop?

Are your original photos of file-type:  raw or JPG?

'Exporting' photos to edit in Photoshop is not necessary, there is a direct link in the Menu: File > Edit in Photoshop , or the keyboard shortcut [Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + E ]

If you are using Finder to locate, and open, your (local) files then Lightroom has no part in the process. Edits made in 'Local' mode will write edit metadata to a JPG or a raw sidecar file on your local drive.

Hi! Thanks for responding

I edit in cloud and this batch of photos are in jpg. I do two sets of edits - so initially I mass edit on LR, then I wait for the photos to get shortlisted by someone, then do finishing touches on them using PS. Also yes I'm aware of the LR - PS function but it takes forever to export to PS and it just was faster for me to open the exported version into PS (at least when it used to work)

I'm afraid it is out of my league to come up with any sensible answer. I trialled your methods and came up with different results. So many variables!

For my first try- a color image edited to monochrome in Lr. (Image A)

Export [A] as 'Original + Settings'- Result is a color! image in File explorer that opens to Ps as a Greyscale!!!  16bit!!! image . (I had JPG support turned on in Camera Raw preferences)

If I have  JPG support in Camera Raw turned off-

I do get the expected result.  Image [A] opens directly to Ps as RGB 8bit mono image.. Check your CR preferences in Ps.

For me the only consistent way is to use the Menu in Lr [Edit in Photoshop], And it is faster than having to find the exported file to then open in Ps. Also the new Ps image will be in the Lr catalog thus not needing to be imported.
