I'd really, really like to be able to do keywording on my iPad in the LR mobile app. Could save me a lot of Google-time back at the desktop trying to figure just where I was standing for that shot, and what's the name of that building, mountain, river, village etc, etc

Still 3 years later and we still can't add and edit keywords on LightRoom Mobile? Come on, that is the most critical function, stars are nice and needed but we need to be able to add and edit FULL metadata, especially keywords.

I have a collection of over 6,000 images that I need to travel with, which is why I purchased Lightroom Mobile. The first thing I looked for when I got my collection synced across my devices was a way to find specific images based on the metadata. I thought I was just missing it, but after scrolling through 4 years of frustrated user posts, I can't believe this still isn't possible! I thought Lightroom was for serious photographers with serious photo collections, not just amateurs with iPhones. (Disclaimer: I don't wish to offend anyone, I'm just angry and frustrated that I bought into a software solution that I thought was a solution.)

After reading about the new Lightroom CC features I really hope that syncing keywords will be coming to Lr Classic as well.

But as Adobe appears to like baiting people into using cloud applications I somewhat doubt it...

Yes me too ! I dream of a huge "Keyword Set" with 35 tags that i can setup spacially exactly how i want* on my ipad... User of Lightroom since 5 years, I will suscribe to Lightroom mobile when something like this will be available. The ipad is just MADE for a Keyword Set on the side while I'm editing pictures (in develop module on the laptop)

* Ideally with different colors/sizes of text possible for my different types of tags..

OR... please give us the possibility to access Lightroom keywords of the actual photo in a third part app that connect to lightroom in some way...

Or... Make all the preview pictures non-encrypted and propose the option to sync (in realtime and in both direction) Lightroom tags, with Mac Os X Tags, that are living in those files...  🙂

This is the only feature that is preventing me from moving to a mobile first image processing workflow. I want to store description with each photo using the Exif metadata fields.

One tool that would be perfect for photojournalists is the addition of the full IPTC in LR mobile. If you could fill in information fields such as: location, date, title, credit, and caption I would not need to carry my notebook all over again. I know I have some information that I can fill out, but they are not all of them. Think about it .. It would be perfect and solve an issue of field photo editing. Bring more agility to journalism.

I do not agree with merge my topic into that topic. This is a discussion about keywords and my questioning is deeper and more professional.
Now my questioning will stay here, being just a bunch of words within a topic that has absolutely nothing to do with my considerations. Thanks, moderator

Hi Henry,

Your post falls under the request for editing metadata which is why I put it here. On it's own it would get no attention. Merging it with this thread helps you get more attention for your idea.

To the developers, it is all part of metadata as a whole so your request fits here perfectly.

Please allow to use third-party keyboard apps (e.g. TextExpander) to fill out metadata fields.

Okay Rick. I understand your point of view, but I still do not agree. One thing is keyword optimization - which already works great on LR mobile - another thing is the professional use of the IPTC.
Under the metadata and keyword title my topic will disappear in the discussion.

But, thanks for the feedback. I recently found an APP that does the IPTC the way I need it but I would rather not have to use two or three APP to work my photos. optimizing the LR would be perfect, too bad it does not work.

Keyword sync between mobile and classic is critical...
I can see where that would be difficult to implement; at least provide matching export/import functions so that we can manually perform a sync in either direction.

For those many of us who have a large hierarchical keyword set, the best would be to have mobile implement the hierarchical keyword option, to match classic.  Failing that, at least allow export of classic hierarchical keywords and them import them with flattening into Mobile.  Going the other direction, export a flat list from mobile, and then have the flat keywords match their likely counterparts in the hierarchy upon import into Classic.

LR Mobile without iptc editing is useless as a pro tool. Clients want the photos “now” with all the info included, meaning I have to carry a laptop around

I don’t think that Lightroom Mobile is intended as a pro tool. The fact that it has a built-in camera app speaks for itself.

It seems four years on and key wording and EXIF/IPTC support is still sketchy. A major and time consuming part of editing is key wording, including location editing, etc. However, even though we can now add keywords, we still do not have a true sync with keywords that have already been created in Classic nor can we access a hierarchical keyword structure. This means duplicated work and the possibility of spelling mistakes. LR Classic stores all hierarchical keywords in a simple, tiny text file that already imports/exports easily between portfolios, so why not have a proper sync between Classic and CC Mobile please. It would save us all many, many hours and the need to care extra notes around.

I don't know why this is tagged "implemented". It's far from being implemented, there is a basic "placebo" keyword editing but it stands out like a sore thumb. You can't search offline, it doesn't sync with LR Classic CC. Please give it some proper attention and complete that functionality so that those who can't use the "all in cloud" version (have you guys seen the extortionate rates for mobile bandwidth in countries like Germany - or the shoddy coverage once you are a bit further away from the nearest big city, most of the time I have edge network if at all and that's with the carrier that has the best coverage across the country) can use LR CC in conjunction with LR Classic CC...

I agree with the recent sentiments here. This feature is not implemented. Please implemented feature parity and syncing with the hierarchical keywords used in Classic.

I wonder if we should start a new thread. This got marked "Implemented" which is clearly not the case. I wonder if this 5 year old thread has fallen by the way side because of it being marked Implemented?

I'm using Lightroom 5.4 on Mac and I recently migrated my whole Lightroom Classic catalog to the new Cloud-based service.

After the migration, however, I am experiencing some issues with keywords. Photos in which people were present were correctly grouped in the "People View" and also had keywords matching the people's names. In the new Lightroom I noticed that even if these keywords are removed, the name search still works if the person is present in the new "People" panel, effectively rendering all those previous people keywords useless.

This is fine with me, however, unlike in Lightroom Classic, in the new Lightroom I can't find a summary of all the keywords present so that I can easily manage them (particularly renaming and/or deleting them, in this case). I am currently scrolling through one photo at a time with the "Keywords" panel open and manually removing them one by one, but it is very time-consuming and inefficient.

Do you have any plans to improve keyword handling in future versions of Lightroom?

Thanks

Lightroom doesn't use keywords. The search uses artificial intelligence to match pictures. If you search for red chair, it will look at the photos and return images with a red chair.

I am currently scrolling through one photo at a time with the "Keywords" panel open and manually removing them one by one, but it is very time-consuming and inefficient.

In the Lightroom desktop app there are two ways of listing all the keywords contained within the library:

1. With All Photos selected, click in the Search Bar to reveal the list of all the dedicated search "facets". One of these is "Keyword", so click on that to reveal the list of all keywords. Note that you have to be online for the search function to operate, as it can also include AI searching as well....which requires more power than a typical desktop computer, thus is always run using the Adobe servers.

2. Again click on All Photos if you want to search the entire library, but now instead of using the Search box, click on the Filter icon to the right of the Search Bar. That will reveal the list of dedicated filters, one of which is "Keyword". So clicking on that will produce the same list of all keywords used in the Library. Unlike the AI-powered Search, the filter can run against the contents of the local catalog, so it does not require the computer to be online.

@melissapiccone

I saw that in the search bar I can select "Keyword" in the filters and it actually works, I can find photos with keywords I previously added with Lightroom Classic.

In addition to that, yes, I saw that Artificial Intelligence gives me also results about picture content, which is really useful, thanks!

@Jim Wilde

Yes, I found that one, too, thanks! However the search by keyword is working as intended, what I am missing is to delete or rename existing keywords with something similar to the old "Keyword list" panel:
