P: Photoshop beta crash on launch

(Sorry if this has been asked before.)

With the latest Photoshop beta update, it crashes on launch.

I have uninstalled the Photoshop beta, uninstalled and reinstalled CC, restarted, unchecked GPU composting in the non-beta version., and reinstalled Photoshop beta, it still crashes on launch (the icon in the dock bounces once and stops without launching).

I have been using Photoshop beta since it was available, even though there is a warning that my (older) OS may cause issues.

I on a team (Enterprise) version of CC.

The team is looking into this along with another issue and will get back when there is an update.

Hi @Cris108 let's make sure there is not a corrupt preference file that is causing this.

Try resetting Prefs for the Beta:
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/ Photoshop Beta Settings (Mac Ventura)
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/Adobe\ Photoshop\ \(Beta\)\ Settings (Mac)

C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta)\Adobe Photoshop (Beta) Settings )Win)
Launch BETA Photoshop While Pressing The Keyboard Shortcut
With Photoshop closed, press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and then Launch Photoshop the way you normally would.

Deleting the Beta settings didn't help, nor did the keyboard short cut.

I got this message:

"The team is looking into this along with another issue and will get back when there is an update."

@Cris108 if you sent the crash report via the popup, then the team has it. If not,

If you haven't done so already, please submit all Crash Reports along with your email address: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html That will help us diagnose the crash.

Hi Cory, Any update on this?

I downloaded the most recent Pshop Beta 25.7.0, the "Verification" comes up but still no launch.

Been using the Beta on this computer since it came out with no problems, but not since the last 2 updates.

Is the iMac too old now? It's a late 2014, OS Big Sur 11.17.10

Illustrator Beta, inDesign, and Acrobat are all fine.

Let me know. I had been using the AI functions of Pshob Beta pretty much every day.

@Cris108 the team is still looking into this.

Do you have the same issue with Ps release version, or is this issue just in Ps beta?

It may help if we could see your Photoshop beta System Info. Launch Photoshop beta, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Hi Cory, I got on Tech Suppor since we have a Team account. Apparently the "standard" Photoshop 2024 has the AI functions (I didn't know this) so I will use that for now and now worry about the Beta for the time being, but still would like know why it didn't launch. And apparently the graphics card that I have could be faster or newer (AMD Radeon R9 M290X 2 GB).

Hi @GeorginaRJ could you share a screenshot of the error you are seeing? What steps did you do when you saw this?

What happens if you try to launch Ps release version, any issues or is this just with Ps beta? Have you deleted Ps beta via the CCD app and reinstalled?

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

When I install the latest version of Photoshop Beta 25.8 (m.2581), it just won't open (W 11). It seems to be some incompatibility with the Nik Collection 6 filters. I should have uninstalled the program and reinstalled PS Beta 25.7.0.
Any news on this?
I like to keep up to date with the latest Beta version of Photoshop.
Thank you very much for your attention.

Hi Cory

See screenshot
[image: image.png]

PS (latest version) is working fine, it's just Beta that's crashing and not
opening at all. I haven't tried deleting and reinstalling. I note that in
the community there is mention of DXO Nik Collection. I have this
installed which seems to be something common with others having this
issue.

The same happens here. The latest working beta is 25.7 2575, when I install 25.8 2581 it doesn't open when I send files from Lightroom. Remark: I also have NIK collection installed!

Today I installed version 25.9 2590 with high hopes, but alas it crashes just the same....

So I tested this out by removing NIK collection 6 completely.

And yes, now the beta doesn't crash.

So I don't know if the error is with Adobe or DXO, who can tell?

@Afactory Do you have the DxO Nik plugin suite installed? Try disabling that and see if Photoshop opens successfully.

You can also start Photoshop holding the Shift key to disable plugins.

@Francisco33018587okto

I've moved your post from Creative Cloud Desktop to Photoshop Beta for you.

We need a few details:

  • Were you able to open the Beta before and then it stopped?
  • Do you get an error message?
  • Is this a new install?
  • Can you open the released version?
  • What is your OS and version?
