This is a bug. Please don't move it to the Discussions tab.

And please don't merge into another unrelated thread. I will report a bug with this thread.

------------------------------------

I made a YouTube video using a keyboard mouse overlay to show what action I'm taking. I hope you can refer to refer to it.

https://youtu.be/Cle6dEgP5_Y

------------------------------------

I was disappointed that there were so many bugs that were not fixed in 24.5, but I was still trying to give it a shot.

However, this bug is pretty serious. Really...

Please see the video I attached.
If you watch the video, you will see that I am shaking the screen.
I'm not using a hand tool, it should release automatically, but that thing is sticky.

To release this sticky, pinned handtool, you'll need to make one more unconditional click.

Here's how I've organized them for your reference.

< What I can be sure of >

  1. Window10 (Tested a total of 14 PCs)
  2. Use WacomTablet
  3. Not related to preferences at all (Especially not related to Spring loaded, Flick panning stuff things)
  4. I've tried all the known Photoshop troubleshooting methods and no improvement.
  5. Even reinstalling Windows does the same thing
  6. Only in 24.5 does this bug occur with certainty. I can't reproduce it at all in earlier versions.

I'm not sure about the >

  1. Mac OS not tested
  2. I couldn't even test if it was a GPU company difference. I and my team all use NVIDIA

And while there are a few threads pointing this out, there doesn't seem to be a proper plan to fix it.

If this is not fixed in 24.6, 24.6 will be equally unusable as 24.5.

We wanted to update this thread that the issue was fixed with the release of 25.6. If you are still having this issue with the most recent Ps version, please start a new thread with your information so the team can investigate further.

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

Indeed... And even if this problem is caused by a Windows update or else it's still up to Adobe to fix it,

let's not take the blame away from them..... We are paying a lot of money for our Adobe subscriptions,

and we rightfully expect solutions.

Good that you emailed. It's about helping to isolate the problem. If you're experiencing something that others aren't, and that hasn't showed up in in-house or prerelease testing, any details you can provide to help the engineers reproduce it is valuable to everyone. The step from isolating the problem to fixing it is usually short, and being able to reproduce it is critical.

As if on cue, one month later again, it's starting to happen again. I'm still on 24.7.0 since people are saying it's happening in 25.

Well, how long will it take to get a fix? It's getting unbearable. This is a real obstacle to my productivity for a tool that I have been paying for more than 15 years. It's the last time I'm upgrading Photoshop and becoming a beta tester against my will...

I have been working in version 25 now and the tools are so slow. Especially the pen and lasso tool. Is anyone else having that issue?

The tools vary rarely stall or stick now, it just that they are unbearably slow...draw a point and then wait to click to your next point because it cannot keep up. I cannpt take it!  I'm not sure why this version of PS is so much better but it's not. Other people have gotten accustomed to it but, I refuse...this should not be an issue when it was working before.

I made an interesting discovery today. Last year I reported this bug for Photoshop 24.0.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/when-press-f-doesnt-change-screen-mod...

This was taken off the bug tab by the arbitrator, and I used to restart Photoshop when that bug that sometimes happens appeared.

And I only found out today. That, too, has to do with sticky hand tools. The spacebar is equally fixed in a pressed state. So no matter how many times I pressed f, it didn't change (even if I tried to change it manually by clicking Shift + F or mouse), and it worked out by pressing the Space bar one more time.

It's not exactly the same as this bug thread that I've reported recently, but I hope this is another hint for the Adobe team.
It's related.

Hi,

I got this error after updating to version 24.7.1

Haven't been working with photoshop for a while, so it caught me quite unexpected. This misbehaviour drives me nuts!

Besides the birds eye view (H) I use the move tool a lot in my daily workflow.

Tried downgrading, following those advices in this thread, and I had even go back to version  24.0 (!!!) to get rid of this error!

That means, that Adobe didn't fix the issue for the last 11 Versions of photoshop. REALLY?!?

That's just unacceptable, if you ask me.

We are paying customers and not beta-testers!

FIX IT, GUYS!

No wonder so many users are switching to Affinity.

Very frustrating bug. I also sometimes have sticky guides, when I try to move them.
I had to revert to around version 24.1 to be able to use Photoshop properly

@Caity.psd  Can we get some updates on the fix progress?

I understand that bugs happen every now and then, and I am aware of the fact how elusive and hard to track those things can be, especially with such a monster of a codebase but honestly it's more than a bug, it's a basic application functionality that's broken...

I'm back on 24.6.0, as it is the last version where hand tool works for me, as all the posted workarounds fail sooner or later.

I've not seen this said anywhere, but what I've found out is that this happens only when I'm moving the mouse while releasing the mouse button. If I'm holding my mouse still and release the button, the tool "releases" normally. This happens both in Photoshop and Lightroom (for example, while adjusting crop).

At first I thought there would be an option in preferences, like "don't release mouse button when moving the mouse" but after thoroughly searching the options, I couldn't find anything like that. I don't use any plugins and resetting the settings didn't help.

@Caity.psd I'm curious about any progress updates on this thread. Is this planned to be fixed at 25.1?

More and more people seem to be experiencing this bug, and I'm concerned about the bad experience from the first release of the Photoshop 2024 title.

Adobe seems to be ignoring/postponing threads like this in the community.

How much longer than 11 versions are we supposed to wait, until getting feedback on a reasonable basis?

The last "official" reply already has been nearly 7 weeks ago!?

I'm fed up with checking this community every time before updating the software, to see if there are new bugs implemented or dragged on!

I want to use the most recent version of Photoshop without fear of stumbling over the next bug, which keeps me from working in an adequate manner.

Stop treating your customers like sh*t, folks! We pay for software that works, not for a bag of bugs, which stay in for 11 (!) versions!

And stop suggesting to reset all settings! We have better things to do, than fumbling around to get everything back to a prior state... working as photographers, designers etc. for example to earn the money, that we pay YOU to get an industry standard software.

But I'm quite sure, that's the problem. Being the monopolist.

Found an interesting video regarding this topic on Youtube: "Why Do Creators Hate Adobe So Much?!"

Look it up. I agree with everything shown in this video.

And it leaves me hopeless, that the support is going to be any better in the future. 😞

Echoing this last post. This is really breaking my workflow (muscle memory, c'mon!) and I'm getting super annoyed waiting on a fix for this.

You need to go all the way back to 24.0.1 to get rid of it which is ridiculous. The marquee tool and hand tool both suffer the same problem - they both "stick".

I'm currently working all the way back in CS6 as it was arguably the last stable version. Since then it's just got more and more buggy and slower and slower even on the highest-end machines.

Hi All - We've been looking into this at length; we're definitely not ignoring it.

We've had extraordinary trouble reproducing this at Adobe, which is why we haven't been able to craft a fix yet.

We've never seen the bug happen on a Mac. Or Windows 11.

We've seen the bug happen briefly on a Windows 10 machine with a Wacom Cintiq attached. But when we try and add diagnostics to a debug build of Photoshop and then run that build on the machine where we just saw the bug happen, the bug fails to reproduce. And then when we go back to the original instance of Photoshop that just exhibited the bug, the bug is gone and everything works properly.

Baffling and frustrating for all of us, to say the least.

I'll post again when I have more information.

Windows 10 ... check.

ALL drivers up to date.

No Cintiq.

So you guys try to fix/reproduce this bug since the last 11 versions of Photoshop?

Barely believable. I have learned from my early stages as a computer user, that's there is no "sometimes".

99% of the time the "bug" sits in front of the computer.

After all those others have the same bug, it's in the software, Photoshop in this case.

Adobe has over 2 decades experience in this piece of software and became the industry leader.

Fair enough.

But maybe you should implement less fancy new features, which can cause additional bugs or even amplify old ones, but keep the software clean and fix bugs first, before moving on to the next hot thing.

For us users it's not only buffling and frustrating, but costs hours and hours of recherching, fumbling, downgrading...

Time, in which we are supposed to satisfy clients and bosses with the help of software we pay for on a regular basis.

We all know, how unsatisfied clients and bosses because of missed deadlines feel like, right?

No offense intended, but get your stuff done, so that WE paying customers can do the same for our customers/bosses.

Thanks!

I think for all of us it’s really easy to reproduce. No tablet required.
Open a document, zoom in. Press and hold the space bar to pan around and
let go of the space bar and the function always sticks on. You have to
click the mouse to “unstick” the hand. For me it’s Windows 10 but this
happens in the last two versions of photoshop for me both at home on
windows 10 and at work on windows 11.

@Goyko  @chrisell99 Try versions earlier than 24.5 right now....

@CJButler Thank you for your response. But I also can't agree with anyone that this is hard to reproduce.

Do you happen to have a Windows PC that you don't use in Adobe Team? (Window10 or Window11 anything)

If possible, reinstall it OS to get rid of all variables, then just install Photoshop and try Spacebar. Then the bug will be reproduced immediately.

I replied by e-mail that it seems that there is already a problem from the installation file. Because the OS is reinstalled and reproduced like that in just installed Photoshop.

I am a fan of Adobe and I need Adobe's products for my job. So, I try not to write down negative thoughts and words as much as possible.
But the other minor bugs are the kinds of bugs that you can try not to use or ignore even if it's uncomfortable.
However, this bug can be experienced by Newbies as well as retouchers, and it is a very difficult bug beyond the inconvenience.

So to be honest (I'm sure Adobe development team is sad to see this, but I'm sorry) I don't think all releases after 24.5 where this bug hasn't been fixed have any meaning as a formal release.
It's a version that can't be used properly, but I don't know if any other function has been added.
So I just test every release and delete it right away.
I have to retouch a few hundred pictures every day to keep the due date, but this bug has such an adverse effect on my workflow, so I would like to give feedback while using the official latest release, but it is impossible.

Why don't you bring someone in from outside Adobe who can demonstrate the bug in length so you can work on a fix? It's not a good enough excuse to say the bug just isn't happening at Adobe therefore you can't find a fix. Every Avenue should be exhausted to make sure this issue gets resolved because it's a serious problem
