P: Program error when saving, lag when zooming, changes not reflecting in document window (macOS)

LEGEND ,
Dec 09, 2020 Dec 09, 2020

Since the 22.1 update, MAJOR bugs:

- ‘could not save because of a program error’ when saving, work around: hiding a few layers or folders.

- major lag when zooming in

- actions and changes delay in showing, to the point where they never show up - once I close the document and quit Photoshop and go back in the changes are  visible.

what’s going on??

Please install 22.1.1 which was released late last night. It contains a fix for program errors.

Reposting this from *ishal ismail, which solved the problem for me. Many thanks, Ishal!

Here is my fix, I'm on macOS Catalina V10.15.6, PS V22. I gave PS Full Disk Access and restarted the system, seems like it has fixed the problem for now.

You can go to System preferences > Security & Privacy > Full Disk Access ( You can find it on the left side pane > and add PS to the list by pressing the small + icon you can find on the bottom of the left-side pane.

Retracting last message: Program error message appearing again. I can save to my local desktop after granting PS 2021 access to the local Desktop folder, but not sure how to grant it access to the server. Any hints?

Getting all these temporary PSD files in the same location instead of being able to save to it:

Also, you need to unlock the privacy pane if you have not already by clicking the padlock on the left corner to make any changes to this section.

Hope this helps someone and Good Luck.

I occasionally have the same problem. Yesterday I restarted comp and stopped getting the error. Resaving .psb file worked (progress percentage goes up to 100% without getting an error). However, today I found, that there is still only first version of my .psb file on my disk (google drive file stream, but allowed to offline storage). It's absolute crap, what they produce in Adobe. 6 hrs work gone!

The solution from Tim above has worked for me. Giving (or re-giving) Photoshop access permissions fixed it!

Has anyone else encountered this problem and figured out a solution? I have tried working from a psd file on the desktop as well as on an external drive and it will sometimes let me save once and then gives me an error if I try to save again. I am using the latest version of PS

Apparently I can't flatten layers either, or even saving out to PNG, etc - this is even more troubling -

Cannot open any image, without disabling graphics processor - but it automatically reloads. Cannot close PS 22.1 without using task master. Windows 10 also updated today, so where the issue lies I don't know?

Having the same problem on Windows myself. Was working ok yesterday. No changes to the PC over 40 GB free on the drive. Now, after I add a new layer the file won't save. Have unstalled and reinstalled PS, rebooted, deleted preferences.

It seems as more updates are pushed out, the worse the performance of the program gets. I hope the developers do a better job in the future. It's frustrating to lose an entire day of work because of this.

For those having this problem, if you restore your preferences using this manual method does it work correctly:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

Assisted support says this has helped the customers they've helped. We'd like to get a copy of your settings folder if this does correct the problem.

Hi Jeff - saving did not work when I opened up the larger psd file I had been working on but did work when I opened a jpg file and saved down as a psd. BTW, I am on a Windows 10 OS. Will not attach folder since this did not fix the problem. Thanks.
