P: Program error when saving, lag when zooming, changes not reflecting in document window (macOS)

LEGEND ,
Dec 09, 2020 Dec 09, 2020

Since the 22.1 update, MAJOR bugs:

- ‘could not save because of a program error’ when saving, work around: hiding a few layers or folders.

- major lag when zooming in

- actions and changes delay in showing, to the point where they never show up - once I close the document and quit Photoshop and go back in the changes are  visible.

what’s going on??

Please install 22.1.1 which was released late last night. It contains a fix for program errors.

Reposting this from *ishal ismail, which solved the problem for me. Many thanks, Ishal!

Here is my fix, I'm on macOS Catalina V10.15.6, PS V22. I gave PS Full Disk Access and restarted the system, seems like it has fixed the problem for now.

You can go to System preferences > Security & Privacy > Full Disk Access ( You can find it on the left side pane > and add PS to the list by pressing the small + icon you can find on the bottom of the left-side pane.

Also, you need to unlock the pri

没有人, no clue why it works, but I can't complain about the fact it seems to be working for so many people! Quite a strange solution indeed.

Hello All,
i have been running Photoshop 7 for a while now with no difficulty on a Win8.1 platform with 10Gb of RAM.
Was reducing image size on a few photos -professionally taken- and all but 1 would save after the size reduction.

Had to save it as a tiff file, bring it into another program and then re-save it as it's native .jpg.

The oddity here is all the photos came from the same source, only one refused to save due to...Program Error.

Does anyone know what happens here?
As i have a work around i am not crippled but it would be great to know the reasons for the errors.

thx.

This fix did nor work on my version of cs2. There is no option for enabling or disabling generator. Need to be able to save my work. How can I fix this?

Does this happen all the time, or just on certain types of files?

You have a very, very old version of Photoshop. The Generator plug-in wasn't around at that time. If you're getting the message in CS2, it could be related to a number of issues with the software. You'll also have to tell us what OS, what your basic computer specs are, (video card, RAM, etc) if you've tried trashing preferences, and anything else you've done to try to fix the problem.

Happy this trick is still helping people out.
At the same time, it's unfortunate that the trick still needs to be used at all, and Adobe hasn't worked it out...

Alternately, duplicating every layer to a separate document and re assembling it after restarting your computer? Or creating a smart object and trying to save then?

Thank you so much Christopher and Philippe!  It's 4 years later, but you just saved me a ton of work with this fix.  I unchecked every layer, saved, and it worked.

Herry C Sucahya is right! This fix/adjustment works!

In Photoshop, on the main navigation, select "Image". Then scroll down to "Mode" and change it from 8 bits/channel to 16 bits/channel. This will making the viewing of the image smoother and allow you to save your photoshop files again.

Whew!

Hi. I'm working on a file but I can't save it, and each time I try it alternates between being because the scratch discs are full(even though I have over 1500 gigs free) and being a program error that I don't know the source of. It's not a particularly big or complex file, but I still don't want to lose my work. Anyone have any idea how to solve it?

Have you tried duplicating all the layers to a new document and trying to save? Is the issue specific to a certain file?

I do not have the option of unchecking the Enable Generator box.  No such box exists.  Now what?  I can no longer save documents in JPEG format without encounter the program error!

When trying to save a psd file, I get a message 'cannot save due to program error'. However in the folder that it should be saving to, it leaves a file with a massive string of numbers that has the changes in it, and that I can open! It creates a new copy of the 'numbers' file each time I try to save.

I'm having the same problem. Attempting to save to a NAS server. Looks like a file permission error.
