P: Program error when saving, lag when zooming, changes not reflecting in document window (macOS)

LEGEND ,
Dec 09, 2020 Dec 09, 2020

Since the 22.1 update, MAJOR bugs:

- ‘could not save because of a program error’ when saving, work around: hiding a few layers or folders.

- major lag when zooming in

- actions and changes delay in showing, to the point where they never show up - once I close the document and quit Photoshop and go back in the changes are  visible.

what’s going on??

Please install 22.1.1 which was released late last night. It contains a fix for program errors.

Reposting this from *ishal ismail, which solved the problem for me. Many thanks, Ishal!

Here is my fix, I'm on macOS Catalina V10.15.6, PS V22. I gave PS Full Disk Access and restarted the system, seems like it has fixed the problem for now.

You can go to System preferences > Security & Privacy > Full Disk Access ( You can find it on the left side pane > and add PS to the list by pressing the small + icon you can find on the bottom of the left-side pane.

Also, you need to unlock the pri

Having the same issues here on Windows 10.

I was able to get my file to save by going to:

Settings > Privacy

Scroll all the way down to the bottom of app permissions and select File System

Then under "Allow apps to access your file system" I turned it off, and then back on.

Hope this helps people out there.

I am having the same problem. I cannot Save, Save As, or Flatten.

If I turn off the background layer, everything works.

if I delete the background layer, everything works.

If I create a new white Fill layer, and then have it as the background layer, it stops working again.

I can repeat this over and over with this same file.

Update: I rolled back to 22.0.1 and everything works perfectly.

Exactly as the error says. I recently updated to the most recent version of PS and now it isn't working.

I cannot save, save as, flatten, export any file with layers. This has happened twice now.

If you go to your Adobe account or your Creative Suite Apps folder..in the list where you see all you installed apps...next to Photoshop there are 3 dots. If you click those, you get the option to install older versions! Yay!

I am having the same problem here, when I try to zoom between 100 and 500 it just doesn't do anything, above that and under it works. It doesn't save, and I cannot use the clone stamp.

I am using a MacBook Pro with MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 with 32GB of Memory and Radeon Pro 5300M 4GB. Everything is closed, only Photoshop active.

I had to force close Photoshop because it wouldn't close showing saving errors, now I am just reverting the update. Hopefully the force close created a recovery file, otherwise I will just have to start again. So frustrating.

Adobe does not bother to solve the problem so I installed an older version and solved it.  That makes me think about why I'm still paying...

I could use some help. This is a file from Dec 2019. We are doing their banners again this year, and when I tried to save this file it's throwing off the error below. My searches led me here. I tried the generator plug-in solution, I rebooted PS and even my system, no luck. What else can I try?

I need some help here, up against some deadlines and now I can't save the PSD files? I have tried everything that I've found on here so far. No luck! What can I do, I really need to get these done and this is killing me. Time is money and I don't have much of either. We pay a lot of money per month for this product and I need it to work! Please give this the attention that it's due Adobe! TODAY!!!!

Hi folks, I keep getting a 'could not save "filename" because of a program error' when I try to save my work. Tried other formats and folders, nothing works. The only workaround I've found is hiding all my layers, saving, re-opening, making the layers visible and then it will work but this takes far too long. Surely there's a permanent fix? On photoshop 2021 on 11.0.1 BigSur if that makes a difference. Any help is appreciated.

I updated Big Sur yesterday to my Mac Book Pro and after that my Photoshop doesn't work at all. Well, I can use some simple brushes, but nothing can be saved (Cloud or computer) because of a "program error" or if I try to move or activate layers in the canvas area the whole thing just freezes. Other CC-apps seems to work ok.

While it’s unfortunate that Adobe hasn’t squashed this bug, I’m glad that people have still been able to use this very same trick for the past 5 years.

Just out of curiosity, are most people using the most recent version of Photoshop when encountering this issue?

Cheers and happy ‘shopping!

Try this:

First, make sure Photoshop is up to date.

Second, grant Photoshop Full Disk Access in macOS System Preferences.

To change this preference on your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > then click Privacy. See  Change Privacy preferences on Mac

Third, hide all layers in the Layers panel then Save again.

Next, disable the Discover Panel.
  • Quit Photoshop
  • macOS: Navigate to "/Applications/Adobe Photoshop 2021/Adobe Photoshop 2021.app/Contents/Required/UXP/"
  • Windows: Navigate to "~\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2021\Required\UXP\"
  • Rename the "com.adobe.unifiedpanel" folder to "~com.adobe.unifiedpanel"

Finally, if none of the above suggestions help, roll back to the previous version of Photoshop.

Same here but photoshop runs fine just can’t edit an image in Camera Raw before opening in Photoshop. It freezes and ceases every time. I made a video of it here. https://youtu.be/2J5p54s_uS8
