Since updating to the newest version of Photoshop, the progress bar for the remove tool appears after each stroke, which is very annoying, unnecessary, and extremely distracting! There is no way to stop or interact with this dialog box.
26.0.0 Remove tool progress bar issue appears fixed for small areas content-aware strokes, and seems even more performant for large areas. Initial use make take a few seconds, but is remove tool is instantaneous thereafter. It's working very well now in the content-aware mode. Fixed! Thank you devs.
So, in the latest 25.12 update, the "removing area"window is still pulling its disappearing act—popping up for just a split second like it’s practicing for the Olympics. It’s starting to get a bit frustrating.
And then there’s the magical cancel button that appears after every stroke—offering you the thrilling challenge of canceling something in a fraction of a second. Fun, right? Except… not really. It’s not exactly a practical workout for anyone’s reflexes.
Could we maybe give that window a bit more staying power? Appreciate your help!
I just tried it on the latest beta and current version. Looks like the progress bar pops even when the remove tool is instantaneous, and it usually is instant for short to medium strokes. From the beta UI, it seems like product is wedging the generative AI features on a tool that is (or once was) most useful for small areas. I'd prefer Adobe create different tool for this, and left the formerly remarkable remove tool alone. At a minum, there must be some time threshold to keep the bar hidden, as it is right now it's just a gray and blue flash.

Call me crazy but it looks to me like the remove tool may even finish rendering before the ui can display the progress bar.
Having the same issue. Beta 25.12. super annoying. Full time professional retoucher since the begining of time. Luckily for me I have three systems here with endless versions of photoshop floating around, time to switch back to a more stable system till this is resolved . Cant stand the flashing progress bar in my face every two seconds.
I am having the same problem after the last update. It is terribly annoying and unnecessary. Distracts from my work of restoring photos. I tried the solution given and it did not work. The latest version of PS Beta does the same thing.
Since version 25.11 Photoshop keeps showing me the progress bar when using the Remove Tool (new brusch). Sometimes only half a second. That's annoying. I can't work like this. Can I turn this off somewhere?

As a professional photo retoucher since 2008, I work with Photoshop every day, often making hundreds of brushstrokes per project. The new progress bar feature, while potentially well-intentioned, has become a significant distraction in my workflow. It flashes with every single brushstroke, which interrupts my focus and becomes quite senseless when there is no interaction or cancellation option available.
This constant flashing is not only distracting but also unnecessary. From my experience and conversations with other retouchers, this feature disrupts the flow of work rather than aiding it. A more subtle or optional implementation would be far more beneficial to users who work extensively in Photoshop.

However, this UI change is expected behavior for now. You should try the next iteration of the Remove Tool in Photoshop (beta), which is available now and allows using Generative AI and 'Find people in background'.
You can now roll back to Photoshop v25.9.1 via the Creative Cloud desktop app.
