Cutting and Pasting from ai to ps, images are pixelated

Hello!

 

I'm cutting and pasting an image from Illustrator into Photoshop. I choose the 'smart object' option when prompted and the anti-aliasing box is checked in Photoshop. Every single time, when I zoom in on the image, it is jagged/pixelated.  Things I've tried and gotten the same result:

 

--I tried creating a PDF image of the file in Illustrator and then 'placing' that file instead of cutting and pasting. 

 

--I've made sure to size the illustrator image to be the same size as the photograph so that it's not being resized to fit. 

 

If it helps, the project I'm working on is placing a pattern design (the illustrator file) inside a product mockup made in photoshop with a quick mask.

 

Any and all suggestions for fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi

When you zoom in, then, yes, it will be pixelated. That's normal.

Here's what I do:

  • Place, Scale, note the percentage of the scale and cancel
  • Return to Illustrator and scale to that percent (or a tad higher) in Illustrator and Save
  • Place in PS as a SO and don't scale or scale lightly if necessary.
  • View at 100%. Does it look okay at this view?
