Take a look at our SFTW threads where people make composites form an original image.  There is a complete range of skill levels, so you wouldn't need to feel the slightest bit embarrassed about joining in.  The other posters will be more than happy to give you help to develop your skills.

Just Google how to make Collage Art with Photoshop and you'll get some amazing results.

I found this one for beginners
https://makeitcenter.adobe.com/en/blog/how-to-make-a-digital-collage.html

Also, the artwork shown is by Catrin Welz-Stein. Study her work and get an idea of the collage pieces she uses.

You can look on Adobe stock for assets. If you just want to practice search for the free assets.

Adobe Stock has a free section if you want to start out without investing too much.

You can also find plenty of old images that are now in the public domain, so, free to use, and which could prove very helpful if you want a bit of a retro look. You have a huge selection of images in the Library of Congress. Many museums also offer images you can download to use (some have free images and some not, just be careful).
A good source is the Public Domain Review Flickr feed
