How to change canvas and image size seperately

New Here ,
Sep 20, 2025 Sep 20, 2025

I am sure I am missing something, but no matter what I do if change the canvas size it changes my image size. If I change the image size first it eliminates the canvas dimensions. What am missing.

What do you mean by "eliminates the canvas dimensions"?

@Brett_Blaney2666

In many ways, image size and canvas size do reflect the same base data, however, they are both used for different things.

It's all about pixels.

  • Canvas Size expands/contracts the area of the pixel grid (the size of the full pixel array).
  • Image Size increases/decreases the pixel density (the size of each individual pixel).

Basically, it reflects the two distinct meanings of the term "resolution". It can either mean total number of pixels regardless of area, or it can mean number of pixels within a given area.

First set image size, then canvas size.

Watch the ppi setting to make sure you have enough pixels.
