Imagine a simple "Nudge" taking 5 minutes - that is the new photoshop reality.

Is it just me or has the quality and performance of PS been on a steady free fall downwards? 

I am working with a file that has 6 art boards, all of them 1920px wide. 

I nudge one of the artboards and photoshop freezes, and either takes 5 minutes to compelte the nudge, or just crashes.

I have a gaming computer capable of great things. This is not a "me problem" 

Is there a fix to this? I just updated photoshop and its worse than ever. 

Anything we photoshop users can go back to having photoshop performance levels from 2018?

I've posted my system info in other threads and its completely more than adequate. This is a gaming PC. 

Files are stored on dropbox > but not sure what difference that makes when i have a file open in photoshop and doing something like perform a simple nudge then crashes the phtooshop, or takes 5 minutes. This is pathetic. Does photoshop just belong in the dumpster now? Once the greatest program of all time, now cant even perform the most rudimentary tasks *facepalm*

@Callingoutn3rds I've reviewed your other posts and you have not posted System info via PS Help Menu>System Info. Copy and paste the report in a reply so we can better understand/diagnose your issue.

That being said - you've already noted the potential issue. When files are stored with an online/cloud sync storage like OneDrive or Dropbox - the service is actively backing up while working causing significant lags.

Try moving your files out of Dropbox synced storage, then turn off sync temporarily and try working off local HD.

I think this is 0% relevant

Why? Because if i pull out the Move tool and move the artboard with my mouse - we encounter the nudge problem. 2-5 minutes for a nudge, or a PS crash.

In contrast, if i create a selection where I want to place the artboard > pull out the move tool > then use the align tools > it happens instantly, no lag

There is something seriously derping (as usual) with some basic functions. 

For the sake of argument though, I'm going to save this same file to my local HD and test to see if the same embarassing level of performance continues from PS.

@Callingoutn3rds not sure where you are determining that this is 0% relevant but you seem set on knowing what you are doing and blaming the software rather than helping us help you. If this was a software-caused issue the forum would be flooded with users noting your ogoing "derping".

Let us know what you find while working local with sync disabled. That in contrast has been widely reported and noted as a solution in many other threads.

Want me to screen record what its like working inside of the "latest and greatest" photoshop on my PC so you can see first hand just how bad it is? It's literally un-usable, while touting itself as an industry leader.

1. Your drivers are 14 months out of date - time to update.

2. You are running gaming drivers not studio. PS recommends Nvidia studio drivers not gaming.

Photoshop does not require studio drivers. It is a suggestion. Please make sure your information is correct before sharing with users. Trying to aggrivate people who are having software problems is not a healthy behavior.

@Makerman111111 I revised to "recommended" but that is a HIGH recommendation - if you research and audit any of the posts regarding this in this forum, most GPU/responsiveness issues with redrawing, etc. are partially caused by using gaming drivers.

That is completely on topic - so unclear where you determined that recommendation is not.

As for the accusation of trying to aggrivate people having sofware issues, please take time to read the context and history of threads before passing judgement on others.

My drivers are "Up to date" btw, according to my windows drive manager. They literally auto update daily. I couldnt even update my drivers if I tried. 

Second, I'm not even sure I have gaming drivers. Is that there in my system info? I don't think I've had any intentions of gaming on this PC since reformating windows a few times ago. And this has never ever ever been an issue with photoshop (which I have been using for years and years). But yeah, sure, I update photoshop, it breaks, and of course its "something with your pc, it could never be photoshop"

Some actual troubleshooting:

I noticed something today when attempting to use photoshop - it was freezing 90% of the time when I would move an artboard (or any layer) beyond where any other artboards had already been, basically changing the Canvas size. Any time an artboard changed the canvas size, photoshop just derps and takes forever or crashes.  It is a big file, but come on. I can do this with figma in literally 2 seconds. Photoshop... 1 minutes... 2 minutes? Crashes? 

Was anything changed in Canvas code / how it works in recent photoshop updates or anything?

I am on Windows, and I bet you it went something like this:

@Callingoutn3rds Will you be able to record a video showing what tasks exactly are causing lag? Does Ps lag with even empty artboards & a single artboard in a new, empty file?

While I have rarely found drivers to be the issue with such problems, it's not impossible, and the fact it's getting worse after a Photoshop update means getting an updated driver might very well help - doesn't hurt trying. Drivers are updated every couple of weeks or monthly by Nvidia, and these updates are meant to address performance issues with new software. I wouldn't rely on Windows to keep my drivers up to date. In your system info, the driver for the RTX3060 states:

Driver date: 2023-06-23
Driver age: 14 months

Driver version being NVIDIA 536.40 (Game Ready), while the latest Studio driver is 560.81 from 6th August 2024

So it clearly doesn't update daily. You can just go to the geforce website (or geforce experience if you have it), and make sure you download the latest studio driver for your card.

Also - keep in mind we're all trying to help, even if the suggestions aren't always helpful. We don't have the same issues as you, and if we are not able to replicate them, it's not a general bug, but some issue that's happening on your machine specifically. I'm on a much older and weaker card - GTX1070, and I don't have such performance issues, although my CPU is a newer 8c/16t. We have to gather as much information as possible, if we are to figure out what's wrong.
