Huion Tablet Pen stopped working in Photoshop CS 6, works fine in Photoshop CC 2019.

My case is a bit of a sad and complicated one.

I use Windows 10 OS, version 10.0.17763.

I use a Huion GT-156 v2.

I was trying to fix a problem with Photoshop CS 6 and Photoshop CC 2019, in which it would not allow me to use the Healing Brush Tool (I'd get that pop-up box telling me to use alt-click because the area was undefined.) It was a problem that persisted no matter whether I had my tablet plugged in or not, whether I used the keyboard or not.

I don't know precisely when the problem started-- it may have been after I tried to do the following in Windows powershell:

reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pen /v LegacyPenInteractionModel /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

However, I cannot be certain of the timing.

My pen then stopped working on both CS 6 and CC 2019. The cursor would not move with the pen, but it would move if I exited out of the program (the mouse was fine).

I tried several things:

* Restarting and shutting down my computer

* uninstalling the Huion table from the list of Drivers

* unplugging my tablet

* enabling and re-enabling Windows Ink

* making a PSUserConfig.txt file and saving it in the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings folder.

I then uninstalled and reinstalled both versions of Photoshop. The pen now works fine with Photoshop CC 2019. It is still not working with Photoshop CS 6.

At this point, I'm desperate and quite willing to consider just resetting my entire computer. I'd really like it to not come to that, but I'm willing to consider it.

Photoshop CS6 has also begun demanding administrator permission every time I open it.

I have never come across a Photoshop demanding feature.  How is that implemented does PS talk to you yell say no your not an administrator.  Have you installed an open application even handler into CS6?   If there is some message involved can you post it?

On Windows Photoshop  CS6 and prior perpetual version only support Pens using WinTab API.  Photoshop CC versions can use Microsoft INK API or use WinTab  API. Photoshop CC Versions default to use INK API. So if your Huion table can be configured to use WinTab API configure it to use WinTab API with Photoshop.  And to Your user ID Photoshop Versions Presences folders add a PSUserConfig.txt file to configure each Photoshop CC version to use WinTab API.   You should then be able to use your pen in all versions of Photoshop. Also make sure that any Huion Windows Service added is running in services. I know Wacom add a service to windows I do not have a Huion tablet. I also do not have a registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pen on my Windows 10 system. I believe that key was added because of a Microsoft Windows Wacom problem  however Microsoft has fixed their problem. Windows update KB4099989 is causing problems with Wacom - Microsoft Community  you should not have this key to disable INK.

Perpetual versions of Photoshop like CS6 do not have support to use INK.....

So if your Huion is trying to use ink and you have that registry windows may not support ink. In which case  your pen will  not work with Phoroshop CC or Perpetual versions. Like you are seeing.
