Use Sky Replacement to shorten your Photoshop editing workflow

Now, with Sky Replacement, it's easier than ever to create amazing landscape photos, even when your original photo has a boring sky. The Sky Replacement feature automatically isolates the sky in your image from the foreground so you can replace the sky in a matter of seconds. Machine learning models powered by Adobe Sensei do the masking and blending for you and then harmonize the foreground of your image with the chosen sky!

Give it a try by selecting Edit > Sky Replacement from the menu, and then choosing a new sky from our library or yours.

How do I get skies from my Libraries into the Sky Replacement feature?

In this article, Using Sky Replacement, scroll down to Settings and options and  if you click on the symbol to the right of the sky image labeled item E, you will get another panel where you can click on item I (a plus symbol) and then select from your own images.

Yes, that allows me to add one at a time. I have several hundred in my libraries. Is there a way to batch import them?

Same issue-. It would be great to have an importer tool since the files are alrady in the Library. We need an easy/quick way to move the files from existing library to the new storage location for skies....please.

Also, clicking on that "Import Skies" menu item- I browse to a folder where I have my skies which are all jpeg. The jpeg files are not selectable. What format do these need to be in, and how do I get them there?

I have exactly the same problem. I can only import a single sky image at a time when I would like to import multiple sky images instead.

Hi, I'm french, so you'll have to translate my english.

I think you can only load one "sky" at a time, and it had better contain a sky too. I tested the "import" function, and it does not work (in fact, it does).

So I loaded some 20 skies one per one. Then I selected and exported them: whaow, This works fine, you get a "xxx.sky" file full of adobe munbo jumbo. And you can IMPORT it.

That's why you jpeg or tiff or whatever files are greyed out. Probably only ".sky" files can be imported. Use it to exchange skies with your friends.

So, until Adobe creates a "New series of skies" function for multiple loading, you have to find some hard worker (NOT ME, brother) to load your skies in the system. Hope this helps.

UNless I am missing something, when I try to import skies, every file type is greyed out, and it won't import a folder or a single file. I can only add 1 photo at a time in the other menu at the bottom. Love the new feature, but really need to be able to add a folder... or a way to find where I can navigate to a location in the Finder to drop all my skies. Thanks!

Yep, I've got the same issue as Rick. I've got a bunch of skies in my current PS library and I see no way of pointing the tool to that. And when I do the Import Skies link, the jpgs are grayed out.

I had a similar problem. I solved it by putting the images into the 'Pictures' folder. I was then able to pull them into the Sky Replacement  thumbnail library from there. It may also work with batch images. Haven't tried that yet.

This didn't work for me.  WEverything is still grayed out and I can't imoport anything.  Only one at a time at the bottom of the skies panel.

Hi All,

We've received reports of not being able to import multiple Sky presets into Photoshop.

Happy to announce the release of Photoshop 22.3 that should resolve this issue.

This update includes fixes to some of the top customer reported issues among other bug fixes. See Bug fixes and security updates

To update Photoshop to 22.3, click "Update" in the Creative Cloud desktop app next to Photoshop. See: More detailed instructions for updating

How do we batch upload our skies to the Sky Replacement interface?

Do we put a bunch of sky image .jpg's in a folder then upload that?

Or, is there another step x step process we should follow?

Once our multiple sky images (what file formats are compatible? .jpg, .tiff, .png, etc.) are uploaded as a batch can we move them around individually inside the Sky Replacement interface? For instance if we want to sort them into different "folders" (blue skies, sunsets, dramatic skies, etc.) once in there.

Finally, is Ps 2021 auto backing up our uploaded skies so we don't lose them either in updating or rolling back a Ps generation? If not auto, what is the process to regularly update as we add more & more skies?

I can't even find the option in the Edit menu as you show. I just updated to the latest version as well, and still can't find it. Help?

If you already updated to the new version, can you please go to Photoshop>About Photoshop and check that you are using 22.0.0?

It is possible you may have clicked on an old icon. Please let me know if it says 22.0.0 and does not show the menu item for Sky Replacement under the  Edit pulldown.

I am from the Netherlands and have version 22.0, but no sky replacement in the Edit menu?

My Libraries window is called Bibliotheken (Dutch)... Photoshop is the English version (in the past I have changed it into Dutch).

Some people click on their old icon after updating and don't realize that it is opening the older version. If you have a quick access icon on the desktop or doc, then you will need to add the new one there.
