Now in Beta: New Commands for Toggling Track Mute, Solo, and Output in the Timeline

New in Premiere Pro (Beta) 25.3 (build 13 and later) the Timeline has three new commands to help you work more quickly:

  • Toggle Track Output for all Targeted Video Tracks
  • Toggle Mute for all Targeted Audio Tracks
  • Toggle Solo for all Targeted Audio Tracks

These commands exist as keyboard shortcuts available to map to any key you like, or in the context menu when you right click on the Mute, Solo, or Track Output buttons in the Timeline.

These commands are designed to help editors in cases where they are comparing multiple video or audio clips to decide which works best. Previously, editors would need to manually click on the Mute, Solo, or Track Output buttons to toggle what was going to be played. The commands allow for easily toggling without having to click around or stop playback, and they only apply to the targeted tracks, so editors have full control.

We hope you find these new commands useful, and we look forward to your feedback. Thanks!

Not sure if this update is part of this bunch of track solo/mute changes, but it seems it is now possible to have MULTIPLE SUBTITLE TRACKS visible at the same time! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@hellopaul4 that was made possible likely because of the Translate Captions feature that was add. Pretty nifty I must say.

I'll test in the beta but as long as this doesn't break current functionality in any way I think this is a fine thing to add. It is, however, a bit confusing as far as the language goes and visualizing what those menu prompts are going to end up doing.

Like with the mute toggle there with your keyboard shortcut, what is it doing? Is it just swapping what is muted for what is unmuted? What if I have a timeline with 30 audio tracks and I just want to toggle between A1 and A2 but leave the rest alone?

Anyway I'll play with this in the beta and provide feedback when I get a chance.

@BrianLevin It was very difficult to accurately name this one, and describe it in text. But the key is "for all Targeted". This means exactly what you asked for – the toggling only happens on tracks that are targeted (turned on blue). So in your scenario just make sure only A1-A2 are targeted, and then A3-A30 won't be touched.

This will be useful for sure. But is there any reason we can't just get individual track shortcuts for solo/mute/output like we have for track targeting?

This looks very useful when mapped to a shortcut. A similar feature to toggle selected tracks (video, audio and combined) would be even more so, or combined.

everytime when switching back from avid or now even davinci, this is one of the most frustrating UI things.

keep em coming!

@Kaxmerkhoff These commands apply only to the targeted/selected tracks, so you're in full control over which ones toggle.

I like this - anything that allows keyboard control over clicking. I also would like to see a track on/off control, especially for audio - eg if I've got alternative music on a different track, or a different language narration. When toggling all tracks on/off, it would be good to have another level of control to ensure a certain track remains off. Hope this makes sense

@alexs19751423 It's difficult to explain in text, but, this feature does exactly that! The tracks are only toggled if they are turned on aka targeted (lit up blue). So you are in full control over which tracks are toggled by these new commands. If you only want to toggle one track on/off, just make sure it's the only one targeted/activated/turned blue.

What does 'toggle track output' do?

Oh - just realized - it's mute/unmute selected *video* tracks.

Wasn't it a better choice to make it toggle all upon Ctrl+Click on the designated icon like it used to be discussed once? There are too many menus, and there are three places on the timeline where those menus are - the wrench icon, the 3 lines menu and the left side of the timeline. Ctrl+Clicking like it is in After Effects would be a better and more organic choice for this feature. Though I understand this idea of being able to turn on\mute\solo separate tracks and not all of them at once, a ctrl+ or even Alt+click to use this exact feature would be more prefferable than doing it through a menu
