Export Freezes

I've attempted to export a 7-hr long video 7 times in the last 9 days, EVERY SINGLE ONE HAS FROZEN around the 2hrs remaining mark. Encoding just stops and the spinning wheel reveals whenever I drag the cursor to the Media Encoder window.

((FYI -I've exported 20hr long videos using the exact same settings this year without ANY issues)).

TImeline is ALL footage from my Sony a7s3 cameras.

NO third party plugins used anywhere in the timeline.

NO effects used, aside from the "cross dissolve" video transition.

Timeline preview plays without issue and scrubbing through the timeline does not freeze at all.

I've tried exporting using Media Encoder -Failed.  I've tried exporting directly from PP -failed.

I've tried exporting using different export settings via a "built in" preset -failed.

I"ve tried exporting in 2hr segments -failed.

My machine:

m1 max

64GB

4TB HDD

Export Settings:

HEVC (h.265)

4K

High

Main 10

VBR 45

I just finished updating my MacOS.

Uninstalled then reinstalled PremPro and Media Encoder.

Each "estimated export time" for the full 7 hr video is around 15 hours... and each failed attempt at exporting has frozen after encoding for 12-14 hours.

My project is now nearly 10 days late.

At this point, not only do I want to scream, but I am 100% certain that I will be leaving Adobe after I figure out how to finally finish this project.

I AM SICK AND TIRED OF ADOBE MESSING WITH MY LIFE.

The client is just as frustrated as I am.

Please do not waste my time with a page -long lesson about something that is irrelevant towards solving this export problem.

I just cannot do this anymore. This suite of "products" is unreliable, expensive, and the company is 100% untrustworthy.  I would not be surprised at all if the solution to my problem is behind a paywall.

Hi @Johnny29957850d8g6,

I'm glad to hear from you. Can you tell us more about your source media? If it's a Long GOP with a variable frame rate, you can get a corrupt clip that could affect a long export. I suspect you might have a bad clip in exports #2 and #4. You should be able to determine the location of the bad clip if you get an error dialog box. Did you get one? Sorry for the problem. I hope we can help you.

Thanks,
Kevin

I see you already tried to export a shorter version. How about putting the short versions into their own sequence, and just export the sequence. You could put those bits together afterwards, without loosing anything. That would be what I'd try. Also, did you try export to Prores, you could then use that as a digital intermediate and make h.265 from that.

Thank you for your reply.

Should this render fail, then I will attempt to export in ProRes

Update.

Uninstalled then reinstalled PremPro and Media Encoder.

Updated to Sonoma 14.6.1

Removed all unnecessary files from my desktop, being sure there was at least 3 TB of HDD space.

Closed ALL other apps/programs.

Shut off internet connection.

Attempted a full 7-hr render.

14 hours later... Media Encoder failed AGAIN with less than 2 hrs of render time left.

Shut down my M1 max for a few hours -then broke the 7hr timeline into 4 segments for export.

Export 1 (first 3hrs) -completed extremely fast, render time was just under 5 hours.

Export 2 (hours 3 - 5) -render began quickly, but FROZE AGAIN with less than 1hr of estimated render time left.

Shut down the computer. Deleted cache files.

Export 3 (hours 3-4) - rendered in nearly 2.5 hours

Export 4 (hours 4-6) - render began quickly, but FROZE AGAIN with less than 1hr of estimated render time left.

Shut down the computer. Deleted cache files.

Export 5 (hours 4-5) - export completed in around 3 hours time

Export 6 (hours 5 - 6) - export completed in about 4 hours time.

Export 7 (hour 6 - 7) - export completed in about 4.5 hours time.

I am now about to attempt to put these segments together in a new sequence/project for the full 7 -hour export.

I could have spent this time LEARNING DAVINCI RESOLVE.

What format did you use. Hopefully ProRes.

Here's what I was going to suggest if you got out the shorter versions:

https://www.shutterencoder.com/en/- Free to download. It's donation ware and well worth it.

There are several functions that will help you, Merge comes to mind, it does it without having to re-encode. ie: you don't loose a generation. Check it out.
