P: Caption is changing to default if i move them

I am using Premiere Pro version 25.4.1 on

macOS Sequoia 15.6.1, and while editing the caption that I created, I change its font to the one I want, and if I move that caption a few seconds or minutes, it changes to its default font. Does anyone face the same issue?
I tried to reset preferences and reinstall software. Still no help. Can someone please help me with the same?

Hi @Karan26555725w6gy - This is a known bug, and we’ll keep you updated on its status. We appreciate your patience while we work on it.

As a workaround, when creating captions, select your personalized style first. Then, if you move them, they won’t revert to the default font in your preferences.

Hi friends! I belive i found a bug.  When i move a subtitle in the timeline, even buy 4 spaces, the font automatically changes from Helvetica to Monoco.  

In attached Screenshot 1 is before subtitle is moved, and Screenshot 2 is after i nudged it 2 spaces.

This costed me a resubmittle ($900!) of a documentary film sent to networks.

Very strange! I do not recall any other reports of this. I just tested (I happen to be in the Beta at the moment), and I cannot replicate.

Does it change immediately after you execute a nudge (whether after 1, 2, or more)? Or only some other step (change selection and back etc)? Do you have a track style set? What is your system default?

Any idea why Monaco?

What version of PR? PC or Mac?

Thanks for the reply. I heard from one community member saying this was a “known bug”.

Turns out it changes to the default font, (which was Monaco) with any movement. Ugh.

I also noticed captions constantly revert to Monaco, it's quite annoying to redo every time.

Got it. I cannot replicate on Win11, but I happen to be in the Beta at the moment. (25.6.0.74)

Is this Mac only? Since Monaco is/was Mac only, it makes me wonder.

I used these steps. Created captions with my default font (Lucida Console). I changed one caption to Arial Regular. I moved it on the timeline a few seconds. 

It remains Arial. I assume the bug would be it changing to Lucida Console. for affected users, is this 100% of the time?

Yes — you’re running into a known Premiere Pro captions bug that’s been popping up in the last few major builds, especially on macOS.

Here’s what’s happening:

When you move a caption segment on the timeline, Premiere sometimes reverts it to the default caption style (font/size/color).

This happens even if you’ve manually changed the font in the Essential Graphics panel.

Resetting prefs/reinstalling doesn’t fix it — it’s a bug in how Premiere handles the link between captions and track styles.

Workarounds until Adobe patches it

1. Create and Apply a Track Style

Select a caption → In Essential Graphics > Track Style, click Create Style… with your desired font/format.

Apply that style to the whole track.

This way, when captions move, they stay consistent.

2. Push to All Captions on Track

After styling one caption, use the "Push to All Captions on Track" option.

That forces Premiere to update all captions on that track with the same look.

3. Avoid per-caption overrides

If you set formatting only on an individual caption (instead of via Track Style), Premiere often resets it when clips are moved.

4. Nest captions before moving (hacky)

Some editors report that if you nest your caption track in a sequence, the formatting "sticks" better.

What you can do

Stick with Track Styles for now instead of relying on per-caption formatting.

Keep an eye on Adobe’s release notes / bug fixes (they’re actively working on caption-related regressions in the 25.x cycle).

This issue has been fixed in Premiere Pro beta version 25.6.0 build 79 and later. The fix will be included in the next stable release, 25.6.0

I can replicate in PR 25.5.0. I am Win 11; so the bug is not Mac only.

It appears to happen only with captions that do not have a track style applied. And if I change the track style to "None" (the font stays the same), the bug recurs if you then move any caption.

The font change appears instantly upon releasing the mouse button on a move. Only a single frame will trigger it. If you select multiple captions, all selected captions change. Copy/Cut/Paste also triggers it in the pasted part; the copy part remains correct.

I went back to Beta 25.6.0.74, and the bug is not present there.

There is misinformation in this post.

The default set in Preferences is only the font. And when a change occurs, it is only the font, not the color or size.

This does not exist in the Style Browser system which was added in PR 24.3.

Adobe discontinued its use of UserVoice in 2022.

Buenas a todos, estoy aqui de nuevo con otro problema de adobe premiere. Finalmente como no obtuve solucion del problema anterior que publique por aqui, decidi formatear mi computadora para arreglarlo y efectivamente lo solucione así pero ahora tengo otro problema.

Aclaraciones previas: formatee el sistema, instale adobe creative cloud y instale adobe premiere. Las preferencias estan completamente en default y no toque NADA de la configuracion. Lo unico que hice fue abrir el programa, importar un video y probar todos los errores que tenia antes para ver si ahora se solucionaron. El unico que persistió fue el que les vengo a comentar ahora y que no se si es mas un tema de configuracion o que. 

El problema basicamente pasa cuando hago la creación de subtitulos a partir de una transcripción. Los subtitulos se posicionan en la pista de subtitulos respectiva y ahi tengo la posibilidad de personalizarlos en tamano, color, tipografia, etc. El problema es que yo selecciono un estilo especifico para los mismos pero apenas muevo el "bloque" de texto en la linea de tiempo a otra posición (por ejemplo lo muevo unos segundos antes) la tipografia de ese bloque de texto se reinicia a la default. Esto pasa con todos los bloques dentro de la pista de subtitulos y es algo que antes no pasaba. Voy a adjuntar un video donde muestro exactamente lo que acabo de describir para que se entienda mejor. Tambien muestro mis configuraciones (que repito son las default). Vi que en la parte de "graficos" dentro de las preferencias se puede elegir cual es la tipografia por defecto y efectivamente es a la tipografia que se modifican los bloques de texto cuando los muevo, pero como les dije, antes esto no sucedia, yo podia mover el bloque a donde quiera y el bloque conservaba su tipografia. Tambien me resulta extraño que solo cambie la tipografia pero no el tamaño, color, sombra, etc. Espero puedan ayudarme a arreglar esto o al menos saber si es un bug de la version o que. Muchas gracias desde ya.

Helps. It started a few weeks back. Everytime I shift the caption around in the sequence or when I copy and paste from one sequence to another, the font automatically changes to Monaco. I've tried resetting app preference, redownloading the app itself, nothing works for me.
