P: OMF Export from Premiere Not Working

Community Beginner ,
Dec 12, 2024 Dec 12, 2024

Running on Premiere Pro Version 25.1.0 (Build 73)

When I import OMF file from Premiere, it's only getting one audio track and layering it to several audio tracks. I'm opening the OMF on Audition. But when my collegue exports the same OMF from Premiere, when I open it on Audition it's correct (all the tracks are there with the correct audio). I've tried making a new project, exporting separate wav files then putting them on a new sequence, nothing works.

Hi @core787

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums! We are glad to see you here. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue. Please see, How do I write a bug report?

In the meantime have you attempted to export an AAF and see if you have more luck bringing that into the project? Thanks for submitting your bug report. I hope we can help you soon. Sorry for the frustration!

Thanks,

Ian

Hi @LayaXIII ,

Have you also tried to use an AAF with embedded audio? The AAF should work just as well as an OMF for the current work around.

Thank you

Ian

Since I updated my editing software to Premiere 25
I can't seem to export a proper OMF file of the project I edited
The same track appears over and over again in ProTools
Not all sound channels appear in the OMF I exported

Perhaps @PaulMurphy has a thought on this?

There was a bug in Premiere Pro 24 that caused similar issues with OMF export, but it was resolved in version 25. In that case, the workaround was to set the audio format to AIF. However, it’s unclear if this is the same issue you’re encountering.

To help diagnose the problem:

  • Can you share your export settings?
  • Have you tried opening the exported OMF in Adobe Audition? If so, does it import and function as expected there?

Hello
I am attaching a screenshot. The issue with OMF export only appears in version 25. In version 24, there are no problems with OMF export. I am confident this is a bug that needs fixing.

Hi there!

I'm currently working on a short as a re-recording mixer. The editor is using premiere pro and has exported an OMF but when I import it on pro tools, every single track is a constant repeat of the first scene that lasts the entirety of the film. At first I thought it was something on my end, but I have tried everything on pro tools that potentially could be an issue. But no matter what I change, the issue still persists. I even went back to an old project on premiere and exported its audio with the exact same OMF settings I told the editor to put. The tracks were fine when I imported it. I figured it must be an issue on how it's being exported. Would anyone know what the editor could be doing wrong? At first I thought he possibly was selecting a specific track but he says he hasn't.

My weekly workflow includes exporting OMF files. Next week I have a large project that is very important that OMF export works, and has a tight schedule. Please fix this now.

As a workaround, try opening your Premiere project file in Audition and exporting the OMF there.

Hello,
OMF export from Adobe Première 25.1.0.73 and 25.2 “Beta” is not correct...
If you need to use OMF exclusively, then you need to stay in 25.0.0.61. Otherwise, your exports won't conform to your layout!

I hope Adobe will listen carefully to this bug, which appeared after version 25.0.0.61.

Same problem here with omfs using  Premiere 25.1.0 on iMac 3,8 Ghz 8-core Intel Core i7, with Sonoma 14.7

Also, it sometimes crushes while working on audio tracks.

I tried to export aafs intead, sometimes they work, but sometimes they don't.

Please do something, my income depends on Premiere.

My income also relies on Premiere working properly. The tip of opening a pPro project/sequence in Audition and exporting an OMF from there has been working as a band-aid for me.

Just dealing with this same issue.  NOT trimming audio files did work but of course it creates a huge audio files folder.  Using Audition to create the OMF does work and keeps the file sizes in check.

Hi all,
yesterday I managed exporting aafs.
I'll try exporting omfs with Audition, ok, but, instead of using bandaids,
I'd prefer Adobe would solve audio issues effectively.

I guess I trust that Adobe is hard at work, but because the lack of updates or response from Adobe on this thread I really have no idea. By the hot responses to this thread, it is obvoius to me that this is a key feature for many editors. I am stunned that in over a month after reporting this bug that a maintenance release has yet to come. I am still a proponent of Adobe, but I am dissappointed in the lack of response to this important short-coming.

Adobe has rarely issued updates within a couple months of each other for most of their apps. I can only think of about two things that got a short update cycle for a specific problem.

This is a huge, complex and complicated app. You can't just do X without having the potential to affect something else somewhere in the app or on certain systems. People complain about getting buggy stuff, then demand that they test heavily first.

You can't have rapid updates and thorough testing with a massive thing like Premiere. Pick one.

And no, Resolve doesn't do that either. Been a Resolve user about as long as Premiere.

Looks like a bug in Premiere 25.1. Since it works fine in the latest beta, you should try updating to the latest stable version if you can. If you’re stuck on 25.1, try exporting as AAF instead of OMF, or reset your preferences and clear the cache to see if that helps.

The problem in this new version of Premiere Pro is exporting *.omf file.

The same exported *.omf once opened in cubase is all mixed up and unusable. So I' cant do an audio production of the edited video.

Can you please fix this problem? The only solution now is to downgrade to the other version of Premiere.

Thanks

Sorry, but its pretty damn clear. Export of OMF is broken, and it broke after updating to 25.1. Plenty of people have confirmed this as well. It seems to be independent of operating system, codec, etc etc.

Hi,

Actually OMF doesn't work well because Avid didn't develop it any further and as such it's an old format. However, regardless of everything it's still very useful because unlike the AAF format you don't need video and everything can be in one file. Premiere 24 worked with omf files normally, but the problem was that Audition didn't open all omf files properly. It writes an error in AIFF audio formats. NO, in Cubase or Nuendo all omf files open without problems. I read that Audition had problems recognizing mono and stereo tracks from Premiere. Now Premiere 25.0 first version works just as well with omf files, but Premiere 25.1 doesn't work. It totally mixes up the audio when opening omf files anywhere. It even sometimes writes an error when creating omf files. I think it's a bug that they have to fix in the next version. I went back from Premiere 25.1 to Premiere 25.0

Regards

Darko

There is always a solution to export in XML and consolidate or copy audio files separately.

The problem with exporting in XML and consolidate or copy audio files separately is that I am working on a 30 minute TV show with 8 tracks of sound design. That would not be a feasable workflow

I know. I agree.

I produce audio and video. That's the main prob.

8 ch.  Or more. Anyways omf should work.

I now have 6 different editors that have sent me OMFs over the last few weeks, and I've had to resort to asking for them to bounce and send full-length untreated audio stems, and pray that their edit points, keyframes, and crossfades aren't sloppy...  Not cool...

We'll try the "Hey, sorry to keep being a bother, but could you monkey around in Audition and export from there?" workaround...

(Sorry if I offended any monkeys...)
