P: Premiere Pro 25 bug with "undo" and "redo" Set Property

I have a problem with undo and redo commands since I've updated to Premiere Pro 25.00. Whenever I use CMD+Z to undo a step at first nothing happens. But when I use it a second time it does undo as it should. So I always have to double-hit CMD+Z whenever I have to undo a step.

The second problem is that the "redo" command doesn't work. It's also greyed in the "Edit" menu. I realized that when I hit CMD+Z once (and it doesn't work) the "redo" isn't grayed and it's available. But when I hit CMD+Z a second time to undo a step because the first time nothing happened the "redo" becomes grayed.

So basically every time I have to undo a step I must hit the "undo" command twice and I can never redo a step because of that bug. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

As of the latest beta build (25.1.0.045), cutting on the timeline causes a "Set Property" (I don't even know what that is..?) to also fire, which not only floods the history but also causes a tonne of lag if you're someone like me that uses a macro that effectively binds "Move Cursor To Playhead" to a mouse button.

This "Set Property" seems to not fire until both the Left & Right mouse buttons are released, so if you are holding the playhead and moving it around for example and spamming 'S' (I have set to "Add Edit"), this behaviour will not occur until the mouse button is released.  Funnily enough, after you have done a cut on the timeline and the "Set Property" has also happened, using "Undo" to return before the cut point will also end up firing a "Set Property" after a short delay.

In the event that the user is using "Move Cursor to Playhead" and they cut on the timeline, the resulting "lag" while premiere tried to catch up to the "Set Property" effectively locks up the user as they are unable to interact with anything until the flood of properties get set.

I'm on Windows 11, I installed the v25.0 beta and the behaviour is not present. (nor is it in the public release of 25.0 now that that is available)

• Reinstall Premiere Pro: If the issue persists, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Premiere Pro. This can sometimes resolve deeper issues that a simple reset won't fix.
• Check Keyboard Shortcuts: Verify that the keyboard shortcuts for undo (CMD+Z) and redo (CMD+Shift+Z) are correctly set in the Premiere Pro keyboard shortcuts menu. Sometimes, custom shortcuts can interfere with default commands.
• Clear Media Cache: Press Shift at launch and clear the media cache using the Reset Options dialog box. Corrupted cache files can sometimes cause unexpected behavior.

I have the same issue on my MacBook Pro 15" 2021 with macOS Sequoia 15.1. It happens with the current German release of Premiere Pro 25.0.0 and also with the current Public Beta (25.2.0 Build 7 German language). Whenever I do something in the timeline an extra step called "Eigenschaft festlegen" appeared in the History Panel. I have no clue what kind of Property needs to be set. This never happened before Premiere Pro 25. 

Here is a screenshot of the History Panel after doing a simple Razor Cut. But it happens on all other editing techniques like trimming as well. It does not happen when you change clip parameters (like scale or adjust clip volume). 

I already reset Keyboard Shortcuts, Preferences, Media Cache and Plugin Cache and created a brand new Project based on the Sample Media.

Quick question, to everyone here encountering the same problem.

Are you using a control surface of any kind?

I'm using the Loupedeck CT and noticed that, at least in one occasion, I could undo and redo as normal without the device being connected to my MBP M1 Max.

That was the solution! I had Loupedeck installed but it is not connected. I started the Loupedeck Panel and there was an Update to Loupedeck 6.01 available. And After Updating Loupedeck presented me a ChangeLog that there was an issue with additional actions that were fired in some Applications. After installing the 6.01 Update I had no more issues in Premiere Pro! 

Update: unfortunately the issue returns today. I uninstalled all Loupedeck drivers and plugins but the issue remains (https://support.loupedeck.com/removing-loupedeck-software)

Premiere Pro 2025 - Mac M3 Sonoma

Ok so there are times when I do something in the timeline and I want to undo it. In Premiere 2025 I noticed that I had to hit control + z multiple times to have it undo and it slowed me down and was frustrating. 

Then I realized the history panel adds "Set Property" for a ton of actions on the timeline automatically. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. 

So if you move a clip it catalogues "Lift & Overwrite Selection" BUT then automatically adds a "Set Property" action... an additional action I need to undo if I want to undo the clip move. 

It totally screws up the edit flow if I need to undo with control +z  bc now sometimes in order to go back its one needs to hit control+z twice other times once.

How can I avoid the automatic "Set Property" Action add?

Are you on the latest beta (sorry I only ever experienced this on a beta version and didn't realise I was in the main forum, are you using a beta version? I only came across this issue in the 25.1 beta)? I thought they fixed it a few weeks back (I noticed it here)

I found a solution that works for me right now: After deleting (or renaming) the "Layouts" folder under Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro > 25.0 > Profile-Username > Layouts the issue seems to disappear. Keep in mind that this will reset your changes to the existing workspaces so you might have to recreate your panel layouts (it's like you revert to a default layout). 
Unfortunatley, I couldn't test wether saved Layouts (ArchivedLayouts) are also corrupted because I don't have any saved layouts right now. And maybe it is a good idea to delete the "LayoutsWorkspaceConfig.xml" as well in case there are any dependencies to the current layouts. Premiere Pro will recreate these files after restarting the app.

Hopefully this works for others as well and please create a backup of your Premiere Pro Profile-Username folder before messing up these files.

Hi @Sven Brencher  and the rest! I found a solution that’s working for me, at least for now. I’m not sure if this issue affects non-Loupedeck users, so the “fix” I found might only be relevant for those using Loupedeck.

Software versions:

• Premiere Pro: 25.0.0
• Loupedeck: 6.0.1.20874
• macOS: 15.1

Initially, I suspected it might have to do with the control surface settings, as I had two devices set up for the same controller:

1. Loupedeck
2. Logi Plugin

Loupedeck recommends adding the Logi Plugin as a control surface, but they don’t specify that you should remove the existing Loupedeck control surface.

I decided to delete the Loupedeck control surface, and voilà, the problem was resolved! 😅

Out of curiosity, I re-added Loupedeck as a control surface in Premiere Pro, and surprisingly, everything still worked fine. If issues pop up again, I’ll just remove the Loupedeck control surface and continue using the Logi Plugin alone.

I also tried uninstalling the Logi Plugin, but that made the Loupedeck unusable (as expected). A note for anyone trying this: Premiere Pro crashes when uninstalling the Logi Plugin if the Loupedeck is connected and running. The only way to uninstall it is by disconnecting the Loupedeck and quitting the Loupedeck software first.

Same issue here. When the history window is open, you can clearly see it losing prior steps when you go back and forth between undoing/redoing.
