P: Transform effect is glitching when modifying the value

Community Beginner ,
Jan 14, 2025 Jan 14, 2025
  • Issue - Transform effect appears glitching on the Program monitor (preview) when trying to modify value, such as Scale or Position.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 25.1.0 (Build 73)
  • Operating system - Windows 11 24H2 (Build 26100.2605)
  • System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    • CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F

    • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER

    • GPU driver: 566.36
    • RAM: 32 GB

    • Hard Drive: Both the footage and premiere running on 1 TB NVMe SSD which is a local storage.

  • Video format: Format irrelevant, the issue persists on any media format.
  • Workflow details: It's just a simple Adjustment Layer on top of an image/video.
  • Steps to reproduce - (Very important!):
    1. Put an image or video into the timeline (anything, really)2. Put an Adjustment Layer on top of it3. Add Transform effect to the Adjustment Layer4. Try to modify the value on the scale or position by click+dragging left and right
  • Expected result - The Program monitor (preview) should display the changes smoothly
  • Actual result - The preview instead looks choppy and glitchy. It's like the program monitor repeatedly trying to show (or often times just flat out stuck) the top left of the original media beneath it.
  • Video for better demonstration:

When I apply a Transform Effect onto an Adjustment Layer, and it doesn't show the preview while adjusting the xy axis. Note, other effects on the Adjustment Layer works fine; Transform Effect onto the clip itself works fine. I've reinstalled it, tested it on other projects, used beta, to no avail.

Any idea what this could be?

25.1 on W11

It works on my end but its kind of jumpy.

When I highlight the effect in the Effect Controls is works smooth.

On W11. I have the same issue but I noticed it's when I have the shutter angle option checked.

Here's a new one that looks like it's specific to the new Premiere Pro 2025.

As I'm dragging my scale or position value, the view in the Program montior lags and doesn't update the scale/position in real time. When I stop dragging scale/position then the Program monitor updates.

Issue attached. It appears to only be buggy in Transform on an Adjustment Layer. Thanks in advance for your help

I can reproduce this on 25.1 W11/24H2

A workaround is to put the effect on the clip itself, then cut and paste on AL.

Hi @defaulti7022ojkpbqj

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums!  We’re happy you’ve reached out.  We’ll need a bit more info to try and help with your issue.

Are you using Premiere v25.1? If you roll back to 25.0, does that resolve the issue? Also, does that workaround from @Ann Bens work? I suspect the issue is with the adjustment layers in v 25.1.

Please see; How do I write a bug report?

I hope we can help you soon.

Hi @Wai Xian32260746wg2l,

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums!  We’re happy you’ve reached out. Can you confirm which version of Premiere you are in?  If you're in 25.1 can you try 25.0 and see if the issue exists there as well?

Changing scale with the transform effect applied causes weird zoom glitches. (video attached)

To replicate:

1. Apply transform effect on a clip

2. click position and scale keyframes

3. change the scale and the bug appears

Premiere Pro v25.1

Apple m1 Pro
MacOS Sonoma 14.5

You are seeing this only when adjusting keyframes?

Tried rendering the clip after setting keyframes and does it play normal?

Yes it plays normal, it's just the glitching keyframe scaling animation that is bugged and is a huge pain since I can't see where the actual frame is gonna land

Try resetting preferences.

If its a preset, remake the preset.

Hi @Super5C88,

Thanks for submitting your bug report. Does this issue happen in 25.0 as well?  Does your issue seem similar to this one?

Can you tell me more about what video format you are working with?  If you have time, please give the team a few more details. See: How do I write a bug report?

Sorry for the frustration and thanks for reaching out.

I just noticed this on the newer Premiere update (yes I am on the latest version).

Whenever I try to adjust the color of a video the program monitor moves the image, that's not a huge issue but it is annoying.

The bigger issue is when I apply the transform effect to a video and try to keyframe the position it no longer gives me a live preview and the screen jump thing happens again.

All of my graphic drivers are up to date.

Have you tried holding down "shift" while opening premiere and selecting the checkbox "Reset App Preferences"?
Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks for the reply, I did try reseting the app preferences which did not fix the issue. I will add the details I missed in the intial post below:

ISSUE:

Whenever I try to adjust the color of a video the program monitor moves the image, that's not a huge issue but it is annoying.

The bigger issue is when I apply the transform effect to a video and try to keyframe the position it no longer gives me a live preview and the screen jump thing happens again.

Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 25.1.0 (Build 73)

Operating system: Windows 11

System Info:

  • CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900K 3.20 GHz

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti

  • GPU driver: NVIDIA Studio Driver Version 566.36
  • RAM: 96 GB

  • Hard Drive: Extrernal SSD

Video format: MP4 10-bit 4K

Workflow details: The sequence is only HD (1080x1920) so I do select all the clips and "fit to frame" for my editing process, however I have the same issue with not seeing a live preview when I add the transform effect and adjust positon to a 4K clip in a 4K sequence.

Steps to reproduce: No clue, if I knew what caused this and how to reproduce it (and by logic fix it) I wouldn't be here.

Hopefully that helps.

I would like to add that nothing about my workflow has changed in the last year (I have only recently experienced this issue) except the version of Premiere pro I use.

Hi @curreylo

Do you notice the same thing happening if you do not use it to Frame? If you just applied a transform on one shot and sized it to fit your sequence settings and then change color are you getting the same results? I have been trying to recreate this and so far no luck.

Thank you

Ian

Uncheck composite Preview during trim in the wrench of the timeline.

Might also uncheck Compositions shutter angle in the Transform effect.

Hi Ian

So I've noticed two things, the jumping of the video when I adjust the color or attempt to use the transform effects does only occur if I am working on video that I've applied the "fit to frame" setting on.

If I apply the transform effect directly to the video clip itself I can see any adjustment I make to the position properties live. However if I use an adjustment layer (which is what I generally do, sorry for overlooking to mention this in previous responses) and apply the transform effect, I can no longer see any changes I make live. I prefer to use adjustment layers as it greatly speeds up my workflow.

Ok @curreylo

This all sounds familiar. Thank you for the info. I know there have been some issues with adjustments layers in previous versions as well. Fit to frame has been known to introduce some gremlins too. Give me a second to look at this knowing these things and I will get back to you. I will let you know what I find out.

Again thank you for all the info it truly helps.

Ian

I have two clips on top of each other on the timeline, for simplicities sake let's say it's background visual at the bottom layer, and a keyed out person on the above layer.

I then add an adjustment layer with the transform effect on top of those 2. When I start dragging the position and scale parameters, the entire preview image glitches out until I release the mouse and stop dragging. This makes using it a pain, as you can not see the result until you release the mouse, and have to guess what values to use.

This started with the latest update. I'm on pc.
